22 | Palmerston North: Ashhurst Engineering & Construction REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Energy sector a core focus T from page 20 AEC fabricated steelwork for structural support of rock wall protection near Kaikoura. In late 2021 AEC started a business operation in Taupo with the objective to offer closer support to the company’s many energy sector customers north of the Central Plateau. “The Taupo team has undertaken big fabrication projects for Tauhara, Bombay and other northern substation sites, and they are involved in Meridian Energy’s Harapaki wind project, which is the big wind farm in the Hawke’s Bay. We’ve been building the overhead infrastructure required to get the energy into the grid. Taupo provides a significant growth opportunity for us.” Around 18 months ago AEC was awarded a $10 million project with Mercury Energy at Lake Karapiro, just south of Hamilton. “That’s one of the oldest power stations on the lake and it’s a major overhaul and it was a significant win for us. We were tendering against big competitors to fabricate big head gates, which is the last line of defense in any hydro scheme. They are a critical piece of infrastructure to protect anyone down river.” In addition to energy projects, AEC has also been involved in a diverse range of key infrastructure projects nationally including the Kaikoura road rock wall prevention, and Sky City building with many tonnes of steel work in the basement area. AEC was also a key supplier of specialist equipment in both the Terrace and Mt Victoria Tunnels in Wellington and the Lyttleton Tunnel’s $28.7 million upgrade. Ashhurst Engineering and Construction is demonstrable evidence of a dynamic and responsive family owned company that has evolved and reinvented itself as the times have evolved, and will no doubt continue to do in the years ahead. Dave has established a highly experienced and industry leading team of technicians, fabricators, engineers, project managers and management. Yet there are simple values that make a difference, such as always paying supplier on the 20th every month, and always respecting the value their team members bring to the success of the business through their diverse skill sets. “We also have great clients who have high expectations but they are fair,” says Dave. “The Ashhurst team are proud of the important role they play in supporting industries to maintain and build a de-carbonised, reliable and sustainable future.” Computer Solutions 4U Providing tailored IT support and services to commercial and business clients throughout New Zealand, the team of professionals at 4U Computer Solutions o er a complete end to end IT package, embraced with high quality and friendly service. “Essentially we orchestrate a business’s IT,” says Managing Director Liam McCready O’Neil. “That’s everything from understanding the requirements, what the system is required to do, how it’s used, then coming up with a solution that meets the need. We procure the hardware and software, con igure, and manage the system and do the on-site installation. Then it’s about providing follow through support which we can typically carry out remotely, saving our customers time and money.” Liam purchased 4U Computer Solutions, a well-established Hawera based business April last year, merging it with his own Whanganui based technology business. While retaining the 4U Computer Solutions brand across both locations, Liam set about o ering up to date services and support to meet the 21st century IT needs of business and commercial customers. “There’s a focus on cloud technology and providing services to customers from our infrastructure, which is held in a data centre in Auckland. We’ve been encouraging customers to move to that, as well as make use of other cloud services like Microsoft365. There is also a focus on cloud phone systems and collaboration. That transition has been partly driven by people needing to work more e iciently, remotely and securely from any location since Covid.” 4U Computer Solutions o ers a diverse range of computer IT services including, computer sales, servicing and repairs, business and commercial IT support, managed services, cloud hosting, backup and disaster recovery, cyber security, Microsoft365, cloud PBX telecommunications and VoIP services, internet services, hardware and software procurement, and managed print services. While prominent in Wanganui and Manawatu and now South Taranaki and New Plymouth, 4U Computer Solutions looks after customers the depth and breadth of the country. “We can do a lot of our work remotely,” explains Liam. “For Ashhurst Engineering’s Taupo site we were able to assemble all the computer equipment, precon igure everything in house, set it up and ship it to Taupo with clear instruction on how to un-box it, plug it in and turn it on. We can also do that with phones, sending a phone directly from the supplier to the customer and all they need to do is plug one cable in and it sets itself up and is operational. Any changes or support going forward we can also provide remotely. 0800 48 2667 www.4ucs.co.nz info@4ucs.co.nz 4U Computer Solutions are your dedicated local IT specialists Cloud Phone Systems & Internet Cloud Backup & Recovery Managed IT & Support Hawera Office, 365 Ketemarae Road, Hawera, 4675, RD15 Whanganui Office, 28 Churton Street, Whanganui Microsoft365
