| 25 REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Taranaki Regional Council: Yarrow Stadium Poor ground conditions, the integration of the old grandstand structure, and insufficient foundation strength were issues identified that led to the decision to rebuild rather than repair. FMG Stadium, Wellington’s Sky Stadium, Christchurch’s Orangetheory Stadium (formerly AMI Stadium) and Dunedin’s Forsyth Barr stadium. GrassMaster hybrid turf offers a lifespan of up to 15 years and up to 1000 playing hours a year. It is used on more than 640 pitches worldwide including 80% of the UK’s Premier League clubs. The East Stand project will be completed over the next few years. It has been demolished and replaced by a new stand. Mike says that poor ground conditions, the integration of the old grandstand structure, and insufficient foundation strength were issues identified that led to the decision to rebuild rather than repair with other issues likely to be identified as repairs proceeded. Building a new stand will also create an opportunity to design a facility suitable for a wider range of uses including conferences, trade shows and other non-sport events, both public and private. Amenities including public toilets, changing rooms, showers and food/beverage areas will be available to users of the outer fields without the need to open up the entire stand or rest of the stadium. The new stand will also have flexible and scalable seating capacity. Yet another benefit is that the project will mean needs of the venue’s sports users can be accommodated under one roof so there will no longer be any requirement for a standalone training centre incorporating community facilities and amenities, as originally planned. With the Taranaki Bulls having had to play most of their games in Inglewood and locals having had to travel further afield to see events, Mike says there has been a lot of interest from major sports groups and event holders in Yarrow Stadium. “They are all keen as mustard to come back.” 10 Tarata Road, Inglewood, 4387 P: 06 756 6080 E: admin@tccl.co.nz www.tccl.co.nz , I l , : : i l. . . l. .
