The Te Awa Lakes development will transform an old sand quarry purchased by Perry Group in the early ‘90s into a vibrant community development embracing a diverse range of housing and amenities, catering to the broadest cross section of interests and demographics. Encompassing 90 hectares of land, Te Awa Lakes straddles the new northern expressway that leads to Hamilton, and sits on the banks of the Waikato River, hugging 15 kilometres of river frontage. Perry Group Chief Executive Richard Coventry says planning for the development commenced four years ago with civil construction of the first of ten stages just commenced. “The Perry family have always been very community minded and wanted to do something very special on this site once the sand quarry finished. “They were very keen to convert it into a Master Plan community, which will be the first of its kind in the Waikato. We estimate the project will take between seven to ten years to complete and will cost a billion dollars, including all land development, housing and commercial areas.” Richard says the development’s uniqueness will be underpinned by high quality medium density housing, including a mix of apartments, terraced and standalone homes. “The goal is to create housing options for “The goal is to create housing options for every demographic and budget.
