DEVELOPMENT The Perry Group: Te Awa Lakes “Hamilton has tended to turn its back on the river, whereas we intend to really activate the Waikato River. “What is also unique is an adventure park/ recreational zone that will include indoor and outdoor adventure activities. “That’s where the brewpub on the river will go, along with potential for health and well-being facilities. “This will be a wonderful space for the residents at Te Awa Lakes and also the wider community to utilise with their families.” Plans for a quality hotel at Te Awa Lakes will cater for both domestic and international tourism, providing them with an attractive base to enjoy while visiting Waikato and from which to launch day trips to the many attractions the region has to offer. “We get a lot of domestic tourism and so we want to attract those people to Hamilton to enjoy the amenity we have here,” says Richard.” When completed Te Awa Lakes will be the welcome home to 2500 dwellings including a retirement village. The retirement village and more residential housing will be on the northern side of the Expressway, while the southern side is where the Village Centre and most of the residential area will be, along with the adventure park. “There will be quite a resort look and feel to Te Awa Lakes, and we’ve drawn on the example of Hobsonville Point in Auckland as perhaps the best example of a Master Planned community development.” Stage One of the development has been sold to Foster Develop and GJ Gardner to undertake vertical development once the civil work has been completed by Schick Construction mid next year. Foster Develop’s focus is the commercial area including the Village Centre and some residential, while GJ Garner is focused solely on the residential side. Perry Group will maintain control of land development and the Master Plan.
