Fulton Hogan – East Coast ended the year on a high note with the Hawke’s Bay and Gisborne teams winning three out of the five categories entered in the region’s annual Civil Contractors New Zealand Awards (CCNZ). Included in the cache of awards was Best Project with a value of more than $3 million for the Hastings District Council’s Frimley Treatment Plant and Reservoir Pipework. The project involved installing new PE pipework and significant valve details through a busy section of Hastings City. Fulton Hogan’s East Coast Regional Manager Andrew Harvey says the project was technically very challenging with a high level of difficulty. “The project went through a main road in Hastings, adjacent to the hospital and near several schools. All of that added to the degree of difficulty. “We had to manage the human element and public interface. Infrastructure work can be quite disruptive on the surface, but the project was very well executed with a good final result in an environment that was tricky to manage. “Winning the award was great affirmation for the project managers and staff involved in the project. They feel really proud to be involved in something like that anyway, and when the project wins an award it’s just great affirmation. The client likes it as well. It is their project, so they have an award-winning project too.” Fulton Hogan’s Gisborne team was awarded the Excellence in the Maintenance and Management of Assets, including routine maintenance projects, for its work on the Gisborne District Council’s 4-Waters Contract that has been run by Fulton Hogan for over 20 years. This is the second year Fulton Hogan has won this award for a local maintenance contract. Fulton Hogan’s third award went to Hunter Donghi who took out the Top Apprentice Award. “Hunter Donghi is a leading hand, working in the Construction Division. He has been working at Fulton Hogan for four years, joining at sixteen. He is striving to be a foreman in the short term. Hunter is a young guy but he is very driven, a great communicator, talented and a good leader. He has a great work ethic; a very sociable and likeable character.” Andrew says the opportunity for industry recognition is a key benefit for entering the prestigious CCNZ awards. “It is good recognition for the people who are actually involved in the projects and to know that they are in the awards mix. Then to win it is really good and a celebration of a job well done. We had about twenty staff at the dinner, which was well attended by civil contractors from around the region.” Fulton Hogan’s projects range from state highway and local authority roading construction and maintenance works, commercial and residential development infrastructure, and quarrying, and has very strong 3-waters construction capability. With 4000 employees nationwide, Fulton Hogan is a well-respected family owned and operated civil contracting business that prides itself on putting people at the heart of everything it does. “That’s about being collaborative and solutions focused with our clients, which brings certainty to our clients projects, particularly in these uncertain times,” explains Andrew. “It’s not coming to the table with a problem. It’s about bringing a solution with the problem, and working with everyone to achieve the best results. We drive on quality. It’s not about quantity, it’s about doing projects well. We have great leadership in the company from the top level right through to field leaders in the regions.” Mico Plumbing and Pipelines Gisborne 390 Childers Road | 06 868 5184 ASK OUR TEAM ABOUT OUR PIPELINES RANGE Civil pipe solutions and valving, Concrete products, PVC & PE pipe and fittings and more Your local Civil Engineering Consultants and Project Managers Proudly supporting P (06) 843 6996 W civilservices.co.nz Unit 9, 11 Wakefield Street, Onekawa, Napier 4110 The team at Civil Services have the knowledge and experience to meet and exceed your expectaons, and offer a variety of services customized to fit your specific needs • Civil Engineering Design • Project and Contract Management • Topographical and Construcon Setout Surveying • Geotechnical Invesgaon, Design and Cerficaon • Quality Assurance Compacon Tesng and Verificaon CONTRACTING
