Leslie says this partnership approach has delivered measurable improvements, with year-on-year reductions in water network failures resulting in fewer disruptions to the community. Fulton Hogan’s highly commended Lowes Pit Stormwater Improvements project represented another significant achievement. Completed in July 2024 after weather-related delays, this innovative environmental initiative is the first of its kind for both the council and Fulton Hogan East Coast. “The Lowes Pit project exemplifies sustainable practice within construction, featuring SW360 Filtration Ponds and a first-flush system to address longstanding water-quality issues,” says Leslie. “Prior monitoring had shown multiple exceedances of turbidity, heavy metals, phosphorus pH, and E. Coli in this former shingle quarry.” The project adopted a multi-barrier approach to improve water quality in the Omahu Industrial area, installing Litta Traps for entry-point protection alongside the filtration ponds and first-flush system for end-of-pipe treatment. Despite encountering numerous challenges – including asbestos discovery, record-high water levels throughout 2022-2023, and unstable ground conditions – Fulton Hogan successfully delivered the complex environmental project through collaborative problem solving with the council and consultants Tonkin + Taylor. Leslie says preliminary results appear promising, with adjacent landowners already commenting on improved water quality and PROUD SUPPORTER OF FULTON HOGAN - HAWKES BAY GET A FREE QUOTE quotes@proarbore.co.nz 0800487332 Commercial & Domestic Tree Maintenance Proud supporters of Fulton Hogan - Hawkes Bay “Our teams demonstrated remarkable resilience during Cyclone Gabrielle, minimising service interruptions despite extremely challenging conditions.” increased birdlife in what has become an oasis within an industrial area.
