The agriculture and horticulture industries have supplied us with many loyal clients; they have stuck with us through the good times and the bad.” REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT This year marks a significant milestone for Everfresh Transport Ltd, as the Hawke’s Bay-based cartage company celebrates 25 years in business. What began as a seasonal fruit transport service in 2000 has evolved into a multifaceted logistics operation with a fleet of over 40 trucks and trailers and a diverse portfolio of services. The company was founded by John Agnew in partnership with the three Crasborn brothers, large-scale apple growers in the region. With a shared need for reliable transport during harvest season, the group saw an opportunity to establish a business that could serve local growers. “It has evolved into a bit of a beast since then,” says Nick Agnew, who now owns 100% of the company. In its early years, Everfresh Transport focused primarily on seasonal fruit cartage. Outside of harvest time, the trucks were largely idle. However, today the business operates year-round, and has expanded its services to include bulk cartage, civil and earthworks, container transport and linehaul general freight. The company, supported by 50 full-time staff, also boasts an in-house earthworks crew and a dedicated workshop staffed by two diesel mechanics and an engineer. A growing area for Everfresh Transport is its role as an approved transitional facility, handling the devanning, storage and distribution of freight arriving on imported shipping containers. Accredited by MPI to handle containers through its transitional facility, Everfresh works directly for importers and freight forwarders. Despite the challenges posed by a slowing economy, Everfresh Transport’s diversified service offerings have provided stability. “Earthworks is hard going at the moment; it is a tough industry to be in during a slow economy,” Nick acknowledges. “But not having all our eggs in one basket and relying on one industry has allowed us to weather the storm and keep operating successfully.” Everfresh Transport prides itself on providing a high level of personalised service. “In our industry, it is critical to provide good service at market rates,” Nick says. This commitment to quality service has earned the loyalty of clients, many of whom have been with the company since its inception. The future looks bright for Everfresh Transport, with several exciting projects on the horizon including the construction of another warehouse at its transitional facility yard. “We own a four-hectare industrial site in Hastings, which has become a key asset in servicing horticultural clients and expanding warehousing operations,” Nick says. Additionally, there is significant growth occurring within the linehaul fleet. Nick credits much of the company’s success to ‘people’. “We have some long-serving employees who are really keen to support the growth of the business,” he says. “I am also very fortunate to have a supportive family that have been great during the transition of the sale of the business to the next generation. “The agriculture and horticulture industries have supplied us with many loyal clients; they have stuck with us through the good times and the bad.” 100%LOCALLY OWNED & OPERATED 1181 Omahu Road, Hastings 06 879 7029 hastings@baytyres.co.nz Keeping Hawke’s Bay Rolling Proud to support & supply tyres & servicing to Everfresh Transport Ltd For Hawke’s Bays largest range of Tyres
