Kieran Oliver Contracting “Client relationships have been absolutely key with everyone that we work with. They trust us and we trust them. We look after each other.” CONTRACTING Growing up around his father’s earthmoving contracting business, it is no wonder Kieran Oliver went on to establish a leading earthmoving and cartage contracting business based in the Wairarapa, with a focus on forestry roading. “It was definitely in my blood,” says Kieran. “There are photos of me in an excavator as a four-year-old, heading off to work with dad. I’ve loved the work ever since.” Kieran moved from Wellington to Masterton in 2009 to start Kieran Oliver Contracting, a one-man-band mainly doing residential site works with a three-tonne excavator and a small truck. Things got busy pretty quickly, and a 15-tonne excavator was added to the machinery to support an increasing workload in the rural sector that included dams and land drainage. Evan was the first team member to join as a machine operator, and he has grown to be a key part of the management team, looking after contracting operations. Ben, another machine operator, was added to help with the ever-growing workload, and when Kieran Oliver Quarries was added to the business portfolio three years ago, Ben was appointed as its manager. Today, Kieran Oliver Contracting predominantly supports the forestry industry, along with some civil contracting work on residential subdivisions, and general cartage. Working throughout the wider Wairarapa region, the business now employs a great team of local Wairarapa men and women. The company has also amassed a modern fleet of excavators ranging from 1.5 tonnes up to 40 tonnes, along with a fleet of truck-and-trailer units, including transporters. “We work in very closely with all our customers,” says Kieran. “Client relationships have been absolutely key with everyone that we work with. They trust us and we trust them. We look after each other.” Reflecting on the successful journey of his family-owned-and-operated business, Kieran says a passion for delivering a high-quality service has been the key to it all. “We pride ourselves on being the best around, and we make sure that we are. That’s right down to the presentation of the team, the gear and equipment, our focus on health and safety, and our environmental impact. “It’s also about understanding our clients’ needs and working with them to achieve it. We try to find efficiencies to save the client money where we can, without compromising quality, and that’s a really point of difference for us.” Truck ute earthmover and agricultural tyres Fleet out work Lift kits and suspension upgrades Bullbars and 4x4 accessories 027 350 2497 www.orizen.co.nz 307 High Street, Solway, Masterton Refrigeration & Electrical Services Proudly Supporting Kieran Oliver Contracting FARM REFRIGERATION | INDUSTRIAL & COMMERCIAL HEAT PUMPS | AUTOMOTIVE AIR CONDITIONING | ELECTRICAL SERVICES Wairarapa Wide 0272 445 085 www.hodgkissref.co.nz 06 929 7679 79 Norfolk Road, Carterton Proud to support Kieran Oliver Contracting PROUD TO SUPPORT KIERAN OLIVER CONTRACTING 022 163 9523 sam@gntbuilders.co.nz www.gntbuilders.co.nz
