| 47 COMMUNITY Apollo Projects: Wai O Rua Stratford Aquatic Centre Located in Portia Street next door to a multisport facility Wai O Rua Stratford Aquatic Centre, will become a hub for sports in Stratford and offer potential for future development. Local company GrahamHarris Limited was proud to be involved in delivering the Stratford Aquatic Centre to the region. Company Managing Director Joe Ingram says the teamworked hard to ensure the project was on schedule despite challenging weather conditions at times including snow andmonths of rain. GrahamHarris Limited completed the earthworks, preparation for all internal and external concrete and siteworks including carparks and kerbing on the project. “We were on site fromday one until the last day and there are not many other trades, which will be there for the entire duration of the project like that. We always found a way to keep the project moving forward to keep it on time and on budget,” he says. GrahamHarris Limited was established in 1972 and has grown from small beginnings. Joe worked for the company as a labourer just out of school. He later completed a Diploma in Civil Engineering and returned to work as a Project Manager for around ten years before purchsing the business in 2017. Since then he has invested heavily in equipment including GPS machine control systems on some of the excavators, to enable GrahamHarris to deliver greater accuracy and e iciency on clients’ projects. A drainage division has also been started to bring this service in-house. “We can now can do everything on projects such as subdivisions including all drainage requirements like installing new sewer, stormwater and water. It completes both commercial and residential projects and is New Plymouth District Council approved for concrete vehicle crossings and rural culvert crossings. The Graham Harris team of around 25 sta plus additional subcontractors is extremely experienced. “A lot of sta have in excess of 20 years industry experience and some approaching 30 years,” says Joe. “Some have been working for Graham Harris for that whole time.” As testament to the team’s skills, while working on the Stratford Aquatic Centre project Graham Harris operator John Northcott won the Civil Contractors New Zealand Taranaki regional excavator competition. Graham Harris is a member of Civil Contractors New Zealand, with Joe current chairperson of the Taranaki branch, and Site Safe. Based in New Plymouth, Joe says Graham Harris loves being involved in local projects: “It was great to be involved in the new Stratford Aquatic Centre and delivering a top class facility that the community will enjoy.”
