| 55 DEVELOPMENT Anthem Homes: Aurora Development Steel framing a solid path to success Karen Phelps Anthem Homes is due to open a new display home in Greenhill Park in September. Anthem Homes has come up with a novel approach to mitigate the timber framing material shortage issue that has plagued the building industry during the past couple of years. It has started its own steel framing business in partnership with The Perry Group. Perry Steel Framing was established in September 2021 to specialise in manufacturing LGS frames, trusses and beams, with the added service of pre assembling into volumetric hybrid pods where beneficial to the client. Anthem Homes director Douw Van Der Merwe says it has given Anthem Homes full control over this part of the process so it is not exposed to delays. It’s just one example of Anthem Homes’ focus on innovation, something that underpins everything the company does. Based in Hamilton, Anthem Homes had its beginnings around 20 years ago and today is owned by a group of shareholders, all of who work in the company. Douw says another example of the company’s innovative approach is the fact it has grown its team from 15 to 30 in just two years after recognising that labour shortages were another factor hampering the build process for the industry. “We now have four teams of our own builders an in-house design and draughting team, which means we can further control the work flow and work standards easily,” he says. In addition, while the entire team has defined roles, it is also flexible so people can pivot to where needed.
