We call it the playground of Wellington because of the successful wine industry here. “We have a diverse range of production, ranging from trees to beef and sheep farming. Our towns have been slow growing, but from around 2015 things really started moving.” Cashmere Oaks has developed in small and steady stages in line with demand, with the balance of land still actively farmed. Roading access has kept pace with section development. All road names in the estate are linked to the Southey family and the area’s local history. In total, the estate now numbers just under 100 homes. “We’re currently up to Stage 7 and are doing that in two parts. Stage 7A has 36 sections, nine of which have sold at auction. “We aim to put the balance on the market in mid-August once we have all the roading done.” Stage 7B – around 48 sections – will then follow, marking the conclusion of Cashmere Downs’ involvement. A reserve is also part of this final phase, along with additional walkways and cycleways to connect the whole estate. In nearby Lansdowne, Roger has also transformed a key corner commercial property with a new architecturally designed building, now home to Madison’s café and Bar and a skin clinic. “It has filled in a gap that had an old house in it and tidied it up nicely. It’s getting good support. “We certainly have more people looking to come this way and there’s a lot of other activity going on in the area, which is becoming popular for retirement and the lifestyle village factor. “Harvey Norman is opening a store here shortly too. “We have been undiscovered and undervalued but that has all changed and we’re now rocking along pretty well.”
