He says it was a challenging project to complete, with many weeks of tireless work from the Gartshore team ensuring an outstanding inal product which it the client’s brief, and brought it to life with the bespoke joinery supply and install. As usual, designer Material Creative managed to incorporate a seemingly endless array of materials and inishes including wallpapers, 17 di erent types of tiles, several di erent glass inishes, fabrics, leathers, solid timber, brass, metals, stone, and veneers. “Seamlessly integrating so many di erent types and sizes of materials was a huge accomplishment for the joinery and installation team,” Rob says. Housed in an iconic heritage-listed building, Naumi Studio Wellington went through an extensive renovation, transforming it into a visual feast for the senses. With a whimsical vibe starting in the lobby, guests are greeted by three Award-winning input aged patina brass counters with foot rails and kick plates. A large scale painted loral backdrop is covered in gold leaf, and features 3D origami bespoke lower lights. The sensory overload continues in the grand bar, with an LED illuminated Corian stone bar top, aged patina brass ins, foot rail, and kick plates, showcasing truly exceptional joinery craftsmanship. One of the most eye-catching features is a stunning light ixture that hangs overhead, requiring hidden structural steel work within a suspended ceiling. Another good example of the hard work of the Gartshore team can be seen in the sumptuous lounge, where a purple mosaic tiled luted breakfast bar took more than 200 hours to create. “Each 20mmx20mm glass tile was cut individually to ensure a seamless transition through to the arches to the underside of the tabletop – a true feat of skill and perseverance,” says Rob. Winning awards for the project is a recognition of the quality of Material Creative’s design and execution by Gartshore. “Without the hard work and dedication of all our sta , these awards would simply not have been achieved and it something we are all immensely proud of. We are now working on the third stage of the project, refurbishing the 62 suite rooms.” Gartshore is a third generation family owned business with o ices in Tauranga, Auckland, and Christchurch, and a proud history going back more than 65 years. A feast for the senses, the 116-room Naumi Studio Wellington is a riot of colour and texture. “We love colour and we love materiality, using materials in different ways is what really excites us,” says Material Creative co-founder and director Toni Brandso.
