PROPOSED STAGE 3 COMMERCIAL/INDUSTRIAL DEVELOPMENT LOT AREA 10,250 m² ROAD AREA 4,750 m² Hugging the northern fringe of Hawera township, the South Taranaki Business Park is set to meet the demand for commercial businesses eager to make the community spirited town their home, or relocate from their current location within the town. Driving the development is local businessman CJ Mahony, who commenced planning for the park two years ago, and turned the irst sods in April 2021. “Hawera has grown organically with commercial and industrial businesses over the last 15 years, but there has been a shortage of commercial land available for development for a number of years. This will be a genuine business park that will provide relatively unrestricted open space for development — something that Hawera has not experienced before.” With minimal tra ic and low unemployment, CJ says there is much to love about Hawera as a location for a business park. “It’s very accessible for anyone in the North Island and has good transport links north and south. It’s an hour’s drive from New Plymouth and Wanganui, and very central across the greater Taranaki region. We’re working with council on upgrades to the local road network, including allowing businesses in the business park dual access to state highway and local roads.” Business Parkmeets demand A small, close knit town, Hawera has a very strong sense of community, which is re lected in the business world. CJ says businesses that have started to move into the business park, or who are showing an interest in moving in, are businesses that are e ectively associated with someone else who is already there. Covering 26 hectares, when complete the business park will encompass 32 individual fully serviced lots, ranging from 1500sqm right up to 14,000sqm. “We’re aiming for that commercial-retail style of business — service people, builders, plumbers, electricians and the like. It’s not an area that has been designated for industrial manufacturing. In time we will end up with 250 – 300 people in the development and I’ve created a section within the development for a café/bakery. I’m also trying to ind a fuel company who will partner up to put a diesel stop in.” Stage One has now been completed, with the next stage due to commence in November, the third in February 2023 and the last stage late 2024. “We have commitments on nine lots to date, which make up both design, build & lease agreements as well as outright sales. We have four buildings at various stages of completion at the moment.”
