New Plymouth as an events destination has been increasingly hot on the radar for corporates. With direct flights from Wellington, Auckland and Christchurch, it’s an easy escape from the city bustle, and yet beckons with a vibrant dining, art and entertainment scene. By the coast, under majestic Taranaki Mounga, the region has now nabbed the record for being the country’s sunniest spot for two years in a row. New Plymouth Event Venues operates four diverse, iconic spaces owned or managed by New Plymouth District Council (NPDC), that have attracted some of the country’s top entertainment, sporting, conference and community events. The business development team at NPDC work closely with clients to find the most suitable spaces as well as suggest a package of service options from accommodation through to catering for their needs. With a passion for their region and working with people, business development officer Alana Martin focusses on TSB Showplace while colleague Angela Wasley works with clients for TSB Stadium, Yarrow Stadium and the Bowl of Brooklands. “We also work in with conference bureau Venture Taranaki, who arrange activities, partner programmes, and other conference support,” says Angela. “Our contracted catering company KDJ Catering offers a fabulous flexible service, where there’s freedom to choose customised catering options. Our whole team work across all venues to ensure a smooth operation including suppliers for AV, sound and lighting, marquees and theming,” Located in the heart of New Plymouth’s city centre, the historical TSB Showplace has a choice of character-filled spaces. For larger audiences there is the ornate TSB theatre, once the Opera House, or the multi-purpose Theatre Royal auditorium. For smaller groups, the stylish Theatre Royal lounge, the Alexandra Room, Bryan Robb Lounge and Balcony Bar. TSB Stadium is a multiuse event centre with large advertising screens inside the venue- complimentary to clients and plays host venue for the annual Taranaki Chamber of Commerce business excellence awards. The downstairs facilities are also having a revamp. The mezzanine room, with a view of the stadium is perfect for a corporate package. Yarrow Stadium will soon have a new East Stand and is tipped to be the finest regional stadiums in the country. The stand will be a versatile venue for trade shows, exhibitions and events. Currently there are two high-standard suites for up to 80 each, with convenient on-site parking. The Bowl of Brooklands, nestled within New Plymouth’s beautiful Pukekura Park, has hosted some of the biggest names in the business during its history from Fleetwood Mac to Sir Elton John and has been home to WOMAD for 20 years. On the very platform where they performed, the Bowl Stage upon the lakeside is a stunning spot for corporate dinners and celebrations, for up to 350 delegates.
