Established in 1996, Curin Contractors started with just one tip-truck and trailer unit servicing local farmers and the rural community. Expanding substantially over the years, the business is based in Cambridge and employs more than 45 staff to provide a wide range of civil, earthworks, and trucking services for residential, farming, and commercial clients across Hamilton, the Waikato, and the Central North Island. From farm works to farm conversions, small projects for new home builds to new sub-divisions, retaining walls to concrete bridge construction, demolition and land clearing to large-scale civil construction, entranceway and driveway construction and maintenance, and trucking and transporting a variety of loads, Curin Contractors offers a depth of knowledge and years of experience. “We have completed a wide variety of projects over the years and we have a great team who are trained and competent to carry out the tasks assigned,” says Curin Contractors director Steve Curin. “No job is too big or too small for our team.” Curin Contractors regularly lays foundations for building pads as requested from local building companies, and works with local farmers for race upgrades, new tracks, or drainage works. Some of the bigger farm projects include stock underpasses, bridges, and culvert works. With the increasing population growth in the area, Curin Contractors works on subdivisions and land development – from small scale two lot conversions to 20-30 lot subdivisions, as well as new entranceways both rural and residential. The company has recently completed a large-scale farm to orchid conversion which included a 50 million litre water catchment pond. Curin Contractors runs a modern variety of fleet to suit the job at hand, including a range of excavators from 1.7t to 23t with specialist attachments, two bobcats, two rollers, and two bulldozers. The cartage fleet of 17 trucks includes 6-wheelers, truck and trailer units, tippers, and two transporters that can cart up to 34 tonne on a widener with the appropriate permits. A full-time mechanic has recently been joined by an apprentice mechanic to keep the fleet well-maintained and reliable to get the job done. The variety of works means no two days are the same for the Curin Contractors team. Management are now developing a new training matrix to identify opportunities for the up-skilling of team members and then act on those opportunities. This new tool makes it easy to see how every team member is developing and where and how they should be trained to help them progress to the level they want to get to. Steve says the team has responded enthusiastically and is open to sharing their personal goals with management. Curin Contractors is an approved council appointed contractor and works closely with councils for civil and earthwork compliance and specifications. Health and safety of staff and the public, along with environmental controls while carrying out projects, are an important part of the companies practice and procedure.
