Planit construction was started in 2007 by Rowan Hannah and his wife Kirstin, and business partner Greg Parish when they merged their two existing businesses. Greg’s experience in construction and Rowan’s engineering background saw Planit Construction combined to create a company that could produce outstanding finishes with perfect execution in meeting their client’s goals. Today, 50 staff are employed across up to 10 projects at any one time, specialising in bespoke residential work. Since its beginning, Planit Construction aimed to operate at the top of the industry. “(We) have focused on high end architectural builds from the beginning, mainly back then it was renovations,” Rowan said. Flash forward to today and the it was more like 50/50 with new builds and renovations, still mostly in the residential space. Since 2010, Planit Construction has picked more than 60 awards in the annual House of the Year competition including the Sapphire Award, a National Category Award, National Supreme Renovation, two Regional Craftsmanship Awards, two Outdoor Living Awards, two Kitchen Heart of the Home Awards, three Bathroom Excellence Awards and an interior Design Award. They have made the national finals nine times and been regional supreme winner six times. Rowan said this year demand remained high and fortunately supply of both materials and sub-contractors had improved markedly in the last five months. However, a slowdown was expected and was already being felt, he said. “We know there is a slowdown in our industry and this is evident from the improved supply, discussions with peers, media as well as builders and labour companies now starting to contact us asking if we have work.” But he expected the slowdown to eventually level out as the cost to build eased. “I think over the medium terms we should see a slight easing or at least a plateau in the cost to build.
