The company designed, constructed and installed systems including DuoHeat swimming pool water heating and air heating heat pumps, Vent-Air condensation control with heat recovery, and under oor heating. Hot Water Heat Pumps distinguishes itself by partnering with clients like Hilton Brown Swimming to deliver the most modern and purpose-built facilities possible. In the case of the Te Rapa complex this involved striking the perfect balance between comfort, energy ef ciency and functionality. “Indoor pools present a unique challenge of maintaining optimal humidity levels for the comfort of swimmers, parents, and instructors while ensuring energy ef ciency,” says Hot Water Heat Pumps sales engineer Patrick Meisel. “Hot Water Heat Pumps tackled this challenge by implementing custom-engineered DuoHeat heat pumps for water heating, boasting an impressive ef ciency rate of 300-500%. Additionally, we maximised energy recovery by utilising air-to-air heat exchangers to extract heat from the expelled air during ventilation, and using it to heat the incoming air. This reduces the need for additional energy input.” The focus on energy ef ciency in the heating and ventilation systems of the complex is of utmost importance, he says, as indoor pools are notorious for their high-energy consumption. “By incorporating state-of-the-art water heating systems and signi cantly cutting down the total energy consumed by the facility, we aim to make it more sustainable and cost-effective to build and operate learn-to-swim facilities. Ultimately this makes water safety skills and lessons more accessible for everyone,” says Patrick. “To further streamline operations and ensure seamless management, Hot Water Heat Pumps implemented a fully integrated online control system. This system allows for remote monitoring, fault identi cation and assistance for local service teams working on-site. By having real-time access to data and the ability to address potential challenges proactively, the facility can operate ef ciently, reducing downtime and ensuring the best experience for pool users,” says Patrick. Hot Water Heat Pumps has a proven track record in the design and construction of swimming pool facilities. It has previously worked on various Hilton Brown Swimming locations including its purpose-built facility in Hobsonville, Auckland. As a New Zealand-owned and operated company, Hot Water Heat Pumps takes pride in its contribution to the local industry. Since its establishment in 1982, the company has consistently delivered high-quality heat pump water heaters and water temperature control solutions, earning a solid reputation. The company's commitment to excellence is evident in its in-house production and design capabilities, as well as its comprehensive range of services, which encompass everything from initial design to construction, commissioning and on-going maintenance. Innovation and efficiency the 20m long pool offers three lanes dedicated to students working on their strokes and on the other side of the pool a shallower area for pre-schoolers and younger school age children. The facility has a comfortable viewing area for parents and spacious changing rooms. One of the company’s legacies in its 50 years span has been establishing baby swimming classes in New Zealand. All facilities offer free baby swim classes for 3-6 month old infants. The popularity of the offering, called Young Tadpoles, sees big wait lists. “It’s our way of giving back to the community,” says Jane. “Our infant swimming programme helps babies and infants to become confident in water, while assisting with growth and development. It’s also fantastic fun with games, songs and entertaining activities that make every moment enjoyable. Importantly, it teaches parents how to hold and be confident around their children in the water.” Jane says that Hilton Brown Swimming teaching methods have been continuously fine-tuned since the business first opened. Every swimming teacher is fully trained to deliver safe, effective lessons. “We run our own in-house comprehensive training programme for teachers. “Each teacher completes a minimum of 30 hours before they are allowed to teach on their own - 20 hours in the pool and 10 hours online. Our staff are amazing and we have a wide variety of teachers.” She says the company’s legacy includes teaching the children and grandchildren of the children it taught back in the 1970s. Jane is a case in point: she used to work at Hilton Brown Swimming as a teenager. She says quite a few of the staff went through the programme as infants and are now working as teachers for Hilton Brown Swimming. The company will be celebrating its anniversary for a week in September with each facility offering the opportunity to win a year’s worth of free swimming lessons for the whole family along with spot prizes during the week as well. “It’s pretty phenomenal to reach the 50 year milestone. “It’s just so important to Hilton and his family that we give Kiwi kids the opportunity to learn to swim.”
