Oliver says Kāpiti hs experienced significant growth in the past decade, with several new subdivisions and high-end homes popping up all across the district. “We’ve built a few nice homes in Waikanae where there is plenty of land, but through the construction boom land was a bit scarce down in Paraparaumu, and we were left with some challenging sites. One project was our largest home renovation to date, and it actually had a sand dune on the property with a covenant on it. We couldn’t remove it, so we had to work with it.” Partnering with lead designer Anthony Clouston from local architectural design firm Fresh Architecture, Redwood Builders completed this full home renovation for a client with an average home in the perfect location. Built only five years ago by a spec builder, this home takes in beach views at the front and mountain views at the rear. It has since been joined in its idyllic cul-de-sac by multiple highend homes, and with its owners coming close to retirement, they were slowing down their work lives and spending more time at home, and ready to bring it up to the same standard as its neighbours with a project that would set their house up for the rest of their lives. The master wing was extended with a huge new fully tiled bathroom including a massive 2.4m by 1.2m shower and double vanity. A spa bath had its own separate room, and a huge walk-in-robe with custom wooden joinery completed the master suite. The hallway cupboard was extended to inclue a wine cellar, then the two separate living areas opened up with a three-way stone-wrapped fireplace between the living and dining spaces. Outside, multiple living areas were created to capture morning and afternoon sun, shelter, and those magnificent views and sunrises and sunsets to the front and rear. Composite decking made from recycled plastic and recalimed timber was used to form three decks around the home, linked with a boardwalk. With the 3.4m sand dune in the backyard orderd to remain, Redwood Builders made the T T Richard Loader Kāpiti experiencing significant growth 316 Te Moana Road (top and below). best of it, landscaping around it and building a staircase to its top in prime mountain view position. Oliver says Redwood Builders completes high end renovations and extensions like this by working closely with its clients and their designers every step of the way, managing the consenting process and the construction process, including organising subcontractors from a trusted pool which has remained the same for the past eight years. “We use a couple of different companies from each trade which allows us to present the best price and the best person for the job.” As well as renovations and new builds, Redwood Builders is highly proficient in commercial construction. Specialising in the construction of steel frame commercial buildings with Oliver’s father’s company Steel Shed Systems Wellington, Redwood Builders runs commercial projects to time and budget, carefully managing all aspects of the build to minimise risk and make it as hassle-free as possible.
