LIFESTYLE T T to page 128 Summerset on the Landing in Kenepuru has been recognised at the Master Builders New Zealand Commercial Project awards where Stage 3 of the project was awarded Gold and, more recently, the Property Council of New Zealand awards where the entire village was awarded Merit in the Retirement Living and Aged Care category. “We built through Covid and lockdowns yet the project was delivered on time and to a very high standard in what was a challenging environment,” says Summerset project director Paul Fairbrother. Located in the greater Wellington region, the project totals 103 residences, a mix of villas, cottages and townhouses, and a large village centre building that was the biggest centre building that Summerset had ever undertaken. The village centre includes independent apartments, serviced apartments, a care centre as well as a memory care centre specifically designed to support those living with dementia. There is an indoor swimming pool, spa, hair salon and gym. Paul says that one standout feature of this project was its emphasis on teamwork, collaboration and collective achievement, encapsulated in the mantra ‘One Team, One Dream’. “This ethos fostered a cohesive work environment that aimed to construct a world-class facility and prioritised safety and inclusivity for all personnel involved. Paul says that at the peak the project exceeded 250 personnel on site which was led by a team of 11 Summerset staff who coordinated civil works, in-ground infrastructure, completion of the apartment blocks, multiple residential typologies and the large-scale 12500m2 commercial building. Paul says that having the benefit of learnings from Stages 1 and 2 with continuity of staff and contactors allowed early engagement in programme development and a clear expectation on risk management and transparent dialogue through regular meetings. “These tools allowed the team to manage build challenges and Covid induced delay and risk and maintain the build programme against all odds.” There were also unique health and safety issues to manage managing Covid in a construction site alongside a live retirement village. 10a Vulcan Place Middleton | Christchurch | New Zealand Proud to support Summerset Group Holdings Mobile: 022 010 5097 | Phone: +64 3 374 3266 www. far rel l const ruct ion.co.nz Designing, building and maintaining landscapes that enhance the natural and built environment. naturalhabitats.co.nz 0508 422 482 A proud delivery partner to Summerset Retirement Villages nationwide
