The company put on a big concert with The Feelers, free food and drink, even a hot air balloon for around 1400 people. The location was also important - Te Awa Lakes as that has been a flagship project with Schick not only doing the civil works but a significant shareholder in the development. “It’s a good example of putting our money where our mouth is and helping to unlock housing in the North Hamilton region. As a privately owned business we like to contribute to the community in positive ways.” It was in 1973 when Lindsay Schick, in partnership with his wife Jeanette and trading as LG & JH Schick, started as an owner-driver in Davies Transport. Over the next 26 years Lindsay developed the business from a one-truck operation, into a business with diggers, truck and trailers, dozers, rollers and bobcats, servicing the agricultural sector, and the residential foundation and building pad markets. In 1999, Lindsay sold the business to Peter and Barbara Grenside, who formed Schick Construction and Cartage Ltd in October of that year. In 2003, Pat Peoples purchased the company, which at the time had 17 employees, 12 trucks and five pieces of plant.
