The franchise also serves Ruapehu from its Ohakune office and deals with residential, lifestyle, commercial and rural real estate. “We started off at 14 staff, as a mixture of agents and staff, and we are probably sitting at 50 now,” John says. “We started off with about 4% residential market share and we’ve been, at times, number one market share in Whanganui across all sectors with commercial, rural, lifestyle and residential, but in the residential space we are currently sitting around the mid-20’s. “From 4% to that is pretty significant in terms of the market.” Bayleys Whanganui’s property management portfolio has also increased considerably, adding more than 190 new properties under management for the past financial year. John attributes the overall business growth to a strong customer focus, supporting staff and developing the team and culture as a whole, as well as the entire team doing a great job in their respective roles. “We believe in the community in Whanganui and support it and we do a lot of community work in terms of sponsorship and events as well.” As a smaller city with strong rural connections, Whanganui has plenty to offer, John says. “We love selling the lifestyle that this area with its natural beauty and access to the sea, river and mountains has to offer.
