In Anthony Clouston’s eyes, architecture is less about a physical building and more about people. Whether it’s a dream home or a functional, commercial premise being imagined, Anthony spends time getting to know what makes his clients tick before concept plans get underway. “It’s about reading people, and creating relationships,” he says. “To create a building that is fit for purpose, you must understand where people are coming from and what problem they are seeking to solve. We take the time to listen, learn, and truly grasp their vision for their spaces.” Based in the lower North Island, Anthony undertakes the design of new buildings and renovations – or, more specifically, creates spaces for families and businesses to thrive. “This means making the buildings fit for purpose, specific to a client, utilising the space and ensuring it is functional – creating space both around us and above us,” he says. His work encompasses residential new builds, alterations and additions and assisting with subdivisional designs; and commercial/ industrial/hospitality new builds, alterations and additions and fit-outs but primarily getting projects through the resource and building consent process. Admittedly, the ‘psychology’ required when dealing with a residential build versus that of a commercial enterprise is entirely different – but with multiple decades of experience under his belt, Anthony knows how best to respond to individual clients throughout the design process. “How we approach the design of a family home is quite different to how we approach the design of a commercial building,” he says. “With commercial clients, they are looking to get the project done efficiently and within budget so they can start seeing a return on their investment. “Residential projects require more attention to personal preference, a different focus, and ensuring the client ‘feels’ good about the project.” With a Degree in Property Valuation and a Masters’ Degree in Business, Anthony is well placed to ensure numbers are crunched, budgets are adhered to and the ethos of adding value is followed. Anthony says he uses his strong connections with engineering consultants, surveyors, builders and fit-out suppliers to ensure the optimal results are achieved for the project. “At the end of the day, the design needs to achieve what it sets out to achieve,” he says. Anthony is also keen to see his architecture skills assist a project very close to his heart – the regional development of the Kapiti Coast. “There are a lot of land gaps to be filled, and opportunities for businesses to thrive,” he says. “It would be fantastic to bring yet more life and vibrance to the Kapiti area. Already there is excellent promotional work being done by the Kapiti Coast District Council to encourage people to come and live and work there. We are starting with a good foundation.” Anthony says his overarching ethos is to get the best results for each project in respect of usage, budget and location. “I believe that every architectural endeavour is a unique opportunity to blend creativity with purpose, shaping spaces that meet our clients’ needs and inspire and elevate their daily experiences,” he says. “Talk to me - you are unique, and so are our designs.” Fresh Architecture ARCHITECTURE NEW BUILDS AND RENOVATIONS | RESIDENTIAL AND COMMERCIAL Trust Redwood Builders as your new house builders and renovation experts REDWOOD BUILDERS IS YOUR LOCALLY OWNED BUILDING COMPANY info@redwoodbuilders.co.nz BUILDING ONTHE KAPITI COAST ANDTHROUGHOUTTHE GREATERWELLINGTON REGION www.redwoodbuilders.co.nz 022 351 4392
