DEVELOPMENT Chris Spayes and Trent Watson each possess complementary skills that collectively have enabled Porirua-based Mechanical [HVAC] and electrical services company Fantail Services, to spread its wings and ly. Established in 2010, Chris Spayes brings a visionary and strategic impetus into the business. “My background is themechanical services trade and Trent’s is the electrical trade. I work on howwe can improve our business systems and strategy, explore new opportunities for the future and look within our Company to o er promotional opportunities for our sta . Trent is an operations man who keeps a grip on the day to day, brings in business through delivering for clients and provides sound technical advice for our electricians. “Our skills compliment each other”, Chris says. Currently Fantail Services employs a team of 36 and a cohort of a dozen labour-hire sub-contractors when demand runs high. Included in the teamnumbers are 8 apprentices on wages and 4more through apprentice training organisations. “We think its really important that businesses help build the future, by enabling young people to advance and gain quali ications. Some will be the next generation of business owners.” Averaging around 20% growth year on year, has been the journey to date, something Chris says, is a comfortable rate of growth. “We’ve seen competitors grow twice as big in half the time and then go bust. With our range of services, keeping up with the play with new technologies, creating a work culture of sharing knowledge and backed by the loyal support of our clients and sta , we plan on being around for a while and strive to have a positive impact on our industry ” Infact having those key relationships is Fantail Services spreads its wings absolutely pivotal to how Fantail Services has grown to what it is today. “When relationships are irm, you have the opportunity to engage in negotiated contracts rather than tendered. This what we like to focus on.” With those relationships grounded, new opportunities come along, as is the case with the contract to install the Mechanical [HVAC] systems at the Mary Potter Hospice Apartments, in Newtown. “We had undertaken a small job for McKee Fehl, the principal contractor on the project and they remembered the quality of our work and this led to the opportunity to do further work together on the apartments project.” Fantail Services o ers a bespoke services trades package capability in the Commercial and industrial sector, taking care of all aspects of the Mechanical [HVAC] and Electrical installations within a building. “That’s a service capability that separates us from the majotirty of our competitors.” The company also supplies the residential sector the full suite of services frombeing involved with large subdivision projects for new-build housing to installingmany heat pumps throughout the year into existing homes. Giving back to the community is an important ethos for Fantail Services. In February, they did just that by supplying 2 of Porirua’s Ako Groups with a dedicated school community shuttle van. “We think an important purpose of business is to contribute to a positive and growing community and the opportunity to contribute to the local schools was one we decided on.” Fantail Services’ website is full of helpful information outlining all the services the Company has to o er. www.fantailservices.co.nz Commercial Electrical, Solar & Data Commercial Design & Build Solutions Commercial & Residential Service & Maintenance Commercial HVAC & Refrigeration Servicing the greater Wellington region with pride since 2010. 04 212 4763 office@fantailservices.co.nz Unit 18, 2/4 Northpoint St, Plimmerton, Porirua PO Box 57093, Mana, Porirua 5247 Residential Heating & Air Conditioning Residential Electrical Solutions
