D esign Builders Wellington’s wins for its unique show home in the 2021 Registered Master Builders House of the Year competition showcase the compa- ny’s ability to work alongside clients to build bespoke homes, says managing partner Mark Davidge. The company won gold in the show home category for the Wellington/Wairarapa region and was named in the Top 100 nationwide. “The Design Builders model is a partner- ship so of course we also approach the build process as a partnership with clients as it’s wired into the heart of the business. We take each client on a journey to build something unique,” he says. This truly individual personalised approach is coupled with freedom from any precon- ceived ideas to allow for creativity to reign and the result is a build of the quality of the show home. The 268sqm two-storey home, located at 2 Viewmont Drive, Harbour View, is perched on a ridge with three sides connecting with a reserve covered in native bush. Mark says that knock down and rebuild projects on tricky sites are common in Wellington due to the city’s lack of land and steep topography and this project showcases both aspects. The design by Design Builders is all about connectivity with nature, says Mark. “The further you walk into the home the more enveloped in the reserve you feel. “We made sure as much light as possible could enter the home through extensive glazing. We wanted to create a warm and wel- coming feel to give that ‘at home’ atmosphere so timber in various stains – charcoal, honey and light – bring the outside in.” When building a home for prospective families and buyers, it pays to use the best materials and build it the best that you can and that’s exactly what Design Builder’s, with the help of Altus Fabricator Nebulite Wellington, have done.
