Unit 3, 152-166 Rangitikei St, Palmerston North 06 354 5786 Adding to its in-house production capabilities, Palmerston North’s Brunton Engineering is now operating a new CNC laser cutting machine and press brake machine, bringing the next level of efficiency and accuracy to its one-stop-shop, end-to-end solutions. Brunton Engineering has made a sizable investment into these machines because there is a considerable demand in the marketplace It means work which was previously outsourced can now be completed in-house, which benefits Brunton Engineering and its customers. “This new laser is super accurate,” says Brunton Engineering sales and development manager Simon Caseley. “It is accurate to +/= 0.03mm with a 6kW laser cutting head, all computer controlled. This machine uses clever software. Our design files are downloaded direct to the machine and the machine cuts it. If we have 20 different files and they all need to be 6mm thick, it will automatically nest all of these onto one big sheet or plate so there is next to no wastage, and cut them all at once.” The machine has excellent capabilities, cutting sheets/plates of 25mm thick mild steel, 16mm thick stainless steel, and 12mm thick aluminium up to 3m long by 1.5m wide, and operating two cutting tables. While one table is cutting, the other table is being loaded or unloaded and quality checked, for huge time and labour savings. Brunton Engineering’s new press brake complements the laser cutting machine with laser cut items then folded with speed and precision accuracy. The 220 ton press brake can fold sheets up to 4.3m long. Brunton Engineering has been lucky enough to have recently welcomed experienced CNC laser cutter and press brake operator/estimator Tim Foot on to the team. “Tim is well acquainted with this machine, he’s been cutting, folding, and estimating for years. He will be working with other team members and training them to operate the machine, while he also completes all the estimating and quality control.” Production efficiencies are a high priority for Kelly Deeks Brunton Engineering, which has many loyal customers who operate in a diverse range of industries and have a variety of specialised engineering problems for Brunton Engineering to solve. Brunton Engineering works closely with New Zealand Defence Force and the associated facilities management on the nearby Ohakea and Linton military establishments. There are currently multiple jobs on the books, including assisting with a large infrastructure project which is underway at Ohakea, where new hangars and associated infrastructure are being built for a new aircraft fleet arriving soon. The Department of Corrections and Police are also valued clients, as are the many other clients where Brunton Engineering focuses on the production and multiple runs of their company products, ranging from structural steel work, machinery components, playground equipment, exercise equipment, and anything else that involves design work, laser cutting, folding, fabrication, production work, or site work.
