PAGE 14 For people who are looking for something traditionally handcrafted and a little bit special, Feilding based D-Mac Joinery delivers just that. The company took out the 2022 Master Joiners Central Region award for its workmanship on a veneer project for a client’s home that included wardrobes, vanities, library and bar. The material was finished with a high-quality stain to give the colour depth so it became seamlessly part of the home. “‘Functionality’ was a key word used to form the design as this was highly important to the clients,” says Katie McBride who owns the company with husband Drew. “We worked as part of the design team on this project and each unit was designed with functionality at the forefront to ensure that there was ample useable storage while maintaining the simple clean lines to help the joinery ‘disappear’ into the functional modern country farmhouse and its beautiful silhouette.” The project required over 80 sheets of the veneer and each unit was hand made in the workshop before being disassembled for transport and finishing. Each unit was reassembled on site and meticulously installed to the smallest of tolerances - 10mm negative details. A mixture of 36mm and 19mm oak art planked veneer was used with the 36mm being a special order that had to be pressed for the project. Importantly everything was constructed using traditional craftsmanship, joining and hand finishing. It was the first time D-Mac Joinery had entered the awards. “It shows we take a lot of pride in our work and have a great team,” says Katie. “We work very hard to ensure everything is of the highest quality and it’s recognition of how our team works to provide the very best to our clients.” D-Mac Joinery started in 2014. Drew grew up in Feilding and has been in the joinery trade for over 18 years. He specialises in kitchen joinery and timber joinery. Katie helps with the administration aspect of the business in addition to designing. They employ a small talented team of three staff and work on mainly local projects but work further afield as required. They say a key point of difference is that clients deal with them from beginning to end and everything is custom built. “We don’t have large machinery,” says Drew, “everything is hand cut on dimension saws. It’s a bespoke, traditional craftsmanship approach.” Despite this D-Mac Joinery works on all types of projects and across all budgets from spec homes to high end architecturally designed homes completing everything needed for a house including laundries, vanities, entertainment units, window seats, wardrobes, kitchens etc. D-Mac Joinery also undertakes commercial projects as well. There is a small showroom that people can visit by appointment and Katie and Drew are on hand to give their trademark highly personal service listening closely to what clients require then delivering something truly special and unique to fit their budget. “We don’t have large machinery.... Everything is hand cut on dimension saws. It’s a bespoke, traditional craftsmanship approach.” hello@ gibbonsarchitects.co.nz L1 110 Devon St West, NP 022 398 5179 Top quality cabinetry hardware for the entire home www.blum.com 621 Rosebank Road, Avondale, Auckland info.nz@blum.com | 09 820 5051 Visit our Auckland showroom to discover Blum products and services and be inspired for your next home project.
