After nearly 45 years in business, Roebuck Construction has a firm foothold in the local market with a long family history of quality craftsmanship, loyal subtrades, successful projects, and happy customers. The original Roebuck Construction was started by Neville and Keith Roebuck in 1946, who owned and ran the company until it was sold in the 1980s. Keith’s son Keith Jr ran his own construction business in New Plymouth for 35 years then in 2007, he and his son Ant set up in partnership until Keith’s retirement at the end of 2014. “We get a lot of work because we’re such a long-standing building company,” Ant says. “Grandad’s business had 100 staff in the 1970s, so the amount of people that call us up who are ex-employees of Grandad’s company is quite phenomenal.” Roebuck Construction works closely with clients at all stages of the construction process to ensure quality and cost efficiency. Whether its a commercial business developing new premises, or a home owner renovating to accommodate their growing family, Roebuck Construction has the same aim for all of its clients. “That they come out of the experience 100% satisfied, and having enjoyed the journey.” Roebuck Construction is proud to provide construction services from the ground up, with the team equally accomplished at building floors and roofs as they are walls. “We’ve been placing and finishing our own concrete floors since my father started doing it in Taranaki in the 1980s. I think it’s more attractive to the client if you can build everything from the ground up instead of having to get this person and that person in to do it. We have less people to manage and we don’t have to worry about our timelines being affected.” Roebuck Construction is looking forward to starting on a large two-storey house build in the new year which will last for 12 months but for now, the company is working on an expansion project at the environmentally-driven Green School New Zealand at Ōākura, building an Innovation Hub which includes an open-air kitchen. This is Roebuck Construction’s first education project and the construction team is working with some specific scenarios that they don’t normally have to think about on other commercial sites. “There are three times of the day that we’re not allowed to drive in or out, so we have to plan our day and our deliveries very carefully,” says Ant. “Also being the Green School, with very high standards around keeping the culture green, we can’t have any of our deliveries covered in plastic, it’s got to be delivered as raw material.” Both projects are running smoothly thanks to a proficient project team and the use of high-end materials and specifications, and are set to be complete for term one 2024. Fortnightly meetings between builders, architects, subtrades, and client are key to ensuring sizable jobs like these continue to move forward in the right direction. businesscentral Each edition priority delivered to your door. .
