With a capped roll of 200 students, and being housed in rented premises, a need was highlighted for a more permanent and purpose-built campus. A greenfield site for a new campus was located on land owned by Massey University, adjacent to the University’s own campus, and leased by the Ministry of Education. In 2021, Maycroft Construction was engaged by the Ministry of Education to undertake the design and build of the new campus. Maycroft’s project scope included the detailed design work along with all the applicable consenting, civil works, construction of the buildings and fit out, landscaping, and playing fields. Maycroft partnered with Design Group Stapleton Elliot as lead designers. The development project is now on schedule for completion towards the end of March 2024. “Building the campus from a greenfield site is one of the exciting things,” says Maycroft Project Director Tom Ellis. “It is not often that we get involved in large earth works in order to prepare the building platform, which is what we have done for Manakura.” The campus encompasses several large, connected buildings including a large entrance and dining space, where students are served both breakfast and lunch as part of their enrolment at Manukura.
