As the busy year winds to a finish Eastbridge has almost completed its work on the Te Ahu a Turanga – Manawatū Tararua Highway, an 18-month project involving manufacturing a seven span steel structure for Bridge 3. “We’ve been pre-assembling some of the steel work in our Napier yard and transporting it to site to make the on site installation faster for the contractor. It’s also resulted in cost savings, health and safety benefits due to people not having to work at height for so long and it’s easier to control work in the yard as there are a lot fewer variables compared with constructing on site.” It is also just completing some architectural hand railing for HEB Construction on the Peacocke bridge over the Waikato River, a key part of a wider transport network planned for the Peacocke neighbourhood in Hamilton. This project has involved over 2000 tonnes of large box girders. Some of the parts transported to site were 110 tonnes and installed on site with a 600 tonne crane by the contractors. Other projects completed this year include the viaduct bridges for Ara Tūhono – Pūhoi to Warkworth motorway project and the SH1 Papakura to Drury overpass bridges.
