Porirua is expecting plenty of growth in the coming years and a lack of housing, including affordable options is one of the city’s most significant challenges. Funding from the Government’s Kāinga Ora-administered Infrastructure Acceleration Fund has been provided for projects in the Northern Growth Area on the hills near Plimmerton, also in Whitby and Western Porirua and together, these projects could mean thousands more homes for the city in the coming years. David has lived in the area for 20 years and set up Designs by David about 14 years ago. He has built up a network of locally operating, trusted and reliable builders, tradespeople, and other consultants to make his new homes and renovations designs a reality. Designs by David has worked on projects all around Wellington, the Kapiti Coast, and even the Wairarapa. Offering architectural design solutions for those who value practicality, functionality, and creativity in both home design and lifestyle, Designs by David provides creative, and practical solutions to enhance clients’ lifestyles, homes, and/or home office needs. “We can develop initial concept designs and draw detailed construction plans and documentation, liaise with consultants, contact builders, get initial pricing estimates, and the big one, manage the council building consent process,” David says. “We provide a friendly and personal service to meet the individual needs of each of our clients.” Porirua has changed a lot in 20 years and is a community-driven city with plenty of potential and a great place to live. At the Northern Growth Area, Plimmerton Developments, Barber Commercial and Classic Homes are set to develop 6000 homes and associated amenities such as commercial, education, community, and retirement villages. Stage 1 involves Plimmerton Farm, consisting of 2000 homes on 384ha, with one-third set aside for natural wetlands. Plimmerton Farm is on the doorstep of Designs by David in Plimmerton, and David can see part of the existing farmland from his window. “Of course if you’re going to put a whole lot of new houses on a hill, you need to consider the infrastructure,” he says. “Already in Wellington and Porirua there are problems with existing old water infrastructure and the word on everybody’s lips is are we going to get a new school or a new supermarket? “If you’re adding new houses where the infrastructure is already straining, something’s going to break.” David now designs an increasing amount of new homes with stormwater retention tanks or soak pits, to gradually release stormwater either into the existing network or back to the ground. Once government approval is given, Kāinga Ora is set to oversee the development of Plimmerton Farm, to help the development progress with the right amount of infrastructure and community facilities to ensure environmental protection and a thriving community. businesscentral Each edition priority delivered to your door. .
