A 204sqm architectural home has won Design Builders Hawke’s Bay the Regional Category and Gold award plus a nomination in the National Top 100 at this years Registered Master Builders House of the Year and shortlisted for the Trends International Design Awards (TIDA). Originating in Hawke’s Bay under Andy and Brenda Bell, Design Builders has provided unique homes built to a client’s unique brief for over 32years. The company has grown significantly and now boasts an awards tally that sits over 100, including several coveted Golds from the Master Builders House of the Year awards. Trent and Tara purchased the Design Builders Hawke’s Bay franchise four years ago. Both Tara and Trent already worked for the company, Tara in operations and Trent in project and construction management. They bring their wide industry experience to the management role and employ an in-house team of architects, draughtsmen, marketers, and technicians to design one-off homes that are built around the client’s needs and budget. “We take care of both the design and the build of your new home, all under one roof. This approach creates real value for our clients who have a lot more say over their design and budget. It becomes more of a partnership,” says Tara. “We link the advantages of an architect with the buying power and efficiencies that group house builders deliver so clients get the best of both worlds – a beautiful custom home at a sensible cost.” Unlike a group home building company, there are no set plans. Every home they design and build is unique, taking in the clients style, needs and budget. “Our job is to work with clients to bring their home to life, and to ensure they enjoy every step of the journey as it all comes together. We follow a proven step-by-step process to keep it all on track” Tara says. That process involves initial meetings to establish the clients wants and likes and practical requirements are worked through, including flow through rooms, orientation to sun and views, furniture placement, outdoor living and parking. Once an initial brief is signed off, the design specifications and concept plans are developed. Design Builders work with the client to align with their budget by helping them with selections and once the budget is agreed upon, a Registered Master Builders contract is signed and deposit paid. The technical team then develop council ready working drawings and building consent is applied for. Design Builders work alongside the client to design the interior and exterior of their home from flooring, paint colours to exterior finishes, ensuring their needs and tastes are meet. A Code of Compliance certificate is applied for on the client’s behalf on completion and the house keys are handed over. “Our clients are getting an architecturally designed house but with more control over the process,” she says. “We can design for any site, and work on a range sections and subdivisions.” Design Builders Hawke’s Bay award winning show home in Napier has been dubbed ‘Raw Talent’ for its modernist design aesthetic of concrete and timber both inside and out.
