Despite the devastation wreaked by Cyclone Gabrielle, the Bay’s population continues to grow in number and diversity. Since 2018, the Hawke’s Bay region as a whole has grown by five percent, with Central Hawke’s Bay leading at 9.5 percent. Year on year, employment is also up, by a comfortable 8.4 percent. According to Figure NZ, 2023’s 187,900 residents will reach 208,600 by 2033. With interest rates and inflation on a downward trajectory, it’s all good news for Hastings’ Residential Building Specialists. Despite the wider construction industry struggling, Director Jeremy Benson and his team have bucked the trend. They’re busy crafting the next generation of high specification new builds and there’s no sign of a slowdown. A recent success is a four-townhouse project at 24 Duart Road, Havelock North. With one already sold and another currently demanding a cool $2.25 million, the 300 square metre two and three-storey townhouses evidence Jeremy’s self-confessed perfectionism. The new owners will want for nothing in terms of style, functionality and comfort. With oak feature walls, interior elevators, top-end finishes and commercial grade Fisher and Paykel appliances, the homes are designed to impress. The striking design and well-thought-out layouts ensure effortless, practical yet super stylish living. Outside, cedar random width panelling juxtaposed with brick and AAC aerated concrete panels deliver a sleek contemporary sophistication. “I’ve always been pedantic, for example working to really strict tolerances,” Jeremy admits. “I’m perfectionistic. Because of that I’ve personally selected all our apprentices and worked with them to get them to the same level I’m at. It makes a huge difference.” NAPIER PHONE 06 844 6464 8 Gloucester Street, Greenmeadows HASTINGS PHONE 06 878 3976 11 Karamu Road North Your local First Windows & Doors manufacturer Contact us today for all your window and door requirements Ph: 06 878 0160 | E: info@twincity.co.nz | 121 Elwood Rd, Hastings The rewards for Jeremy include consistently excellent feedback from subcontractors and clients alike – and that means repeat business. “Our staff are also friendly and turn up on time,” he says. “We often get customers coming back to us to do other bits and pieces as well.” While completing a new build is incredibly satisfying, Jeremy and his team are proud of the work they have done to get Hawke’s Bay property owners back on their feet after Cyclone Gabrielle hit on February 14 last year. “We’ve done a lot of insurance work. It’s been cool being able to walk into a home where the water and silt have been halfway up the wall, then walk out at the end of the job knowing the owners have basically got a new house. “The boys have really enjoyed doing that.” While the Duart Road townhouses are certainly stopping buyers in their tracks, a newly commenced 600 square metre home commanding a prime site in the Tukituki hills promises to dazzle. Built to even higher specifications, the home – complete with swimming pool – will take Residential Buildings Specialists 18 months of painstaking craftsmanship to complete. Meanwhile, two, 300 square metre, two-storey new builds get underway this month. Commercial builds and refurbishments are also on Jeremy’s radar, with Napier’s old Turners building recently getting a fresh look.
