From humble start to major development Straight Forward Building Solutions has doubled its workforce since its inception. When Otto Rasch started Straight Forward Building Solutions in 2020 with just eight staff members, he couldn’t have predicted that within four years his company would be leading one of Kapiti Coast’s most significant residential developments. The Petone-based construction company has been appointed as the lead contractor for the first stage of the ambitious Lindale Village rejuvenation project in Paraparaumu, marking a major milestone in the company’s rapid growth trajectory. “It has been a great experience for us working for the Lindale Village project and we hope to be involved with future aspects we can assist with. It’s a massive and unique project,” says Otto. The development’s first stage comprises 15 three-story townhouses spread across two blocks, with one block featuring lift access. Each 220-square-metre unit can be dual-keyed, offering flexible living arrangements with self-contained ground floor apartments suitable for extended family, tenants, or teenage children. For Straight Forward Building Solutions, which has doubled its workforce since inception to 16 staff members, including seven builders trained in-house, the Lindale Village project represents a significant step up in scale and complexity. “We’ve naturally grown due to demand and the good reputation we have with our clients,” explains Otto, who completed his apprenticeship with LT McGuinness and brings over two decades of industry experience to the table. The townhouses feature open-plan living areas on the second level with balconies, while the top floor houses three bedrooms, including a master with ensuite and a shared bathroom. Each unit comes with internal garage space and additional parking for two vehicles, with select properties offering views of Kapiti Island. The project is part of a broader initiative by Lindale Residential to transform the historic village, once famous for its cheese production and Barnyard petting farm, into a thriving residential and commercial hub. The development will include retail spaces, commercial operations, and a three-bedroom boutique hotel. T T Karen Phelps Despite the project’s scale, Otto’s company secured the contract without traditional advertising, instead relying on its reputation for quality workmanship and strong client relationships. “We all work collaboratively together to deliver a great result for our clients,” says Otto. Stage one of the Lindale Village development is scheduled for completion before the end of the year. The project aligns with Kapiti Coast District Council’s vision for the area and is being developed in consultation with the Food and Beverage Cluster. The village already hosts an eclectic mix of businesses, including Print Mighty, a t-shirt printing company, a motorcycle workshop, a bookstore, florist, and Mills Albert Pathways, which provides qualification-aligned training for young people. For Straight Forward Building Solutions, Otto says the Lindale Village project represents not just its largest undertaking to date, but also a chance to contribute to the transformation of a historic Kapiti Coast landmark.
