| 135 Nordic Pitch. The Housing Lab Manawatu family-owned and operated design and build company, The Housing Lab, is transforming the quality and aesthetics of new residential housing across the region, particularly in Fielding where a bespoke nine-lot development is under design and a Nordic-inspired lifestyle property on Mahua Road is underway. The Housing Lab, founded by Darcy and Harriet Currie, are bringing fresh innovation to the new home design and build market through its intensive design-led approach which results in bespoke homes that clients can’t help but fall in love with. Combining Darcy’s background in building and property development with Harriet’s design co-ordination expertise, the duo has crafted a design and build company that blends experience and local knowledge with an unparalleled depth of design focus. With a focus on harmony of materials, the importance of proportion, and thoughtful design that goes beyond just functionality, The Housing Lab takes a market led approach to its developments. “Our intent has always been to introduce more considered, better designed homes to market,” says Darcy. Currently developing a nine-lot subdivision on Pharazyn Street, on the northern fringes of Fielding, dubbed The Enclave- A Crafted Collection, The Housing Lab are seeking direct input from potential buyers, before finalising designs. “The vision here is for a community of distinctively crafted homes, each with a unique theme. A pocket of interesting if you will,” says Darcy. A survey was launched to gather feedback from potential buyers on what design features people are looking for, before they begin building on the nine distinct, market-ready sections. This market driven approach ensures they can tailor the design to meet specific needs while leaving scope for unique architectural flair. The Housing Lab’s first development within Fielding were five unique for-market homes T T Bernadette Cooney at 161/163 Pharazyn Street east of the town in 2023. “This was mix of three-and four-bedroom standalone homes, between 160 and 240 sq. metres. All a bit different and a lot of fun to design,” says Darcy. A home within this development led to another client build on a lifestyle block on Mahua Road, east of Fielding. “This family approached us after being inspired by the Nordic Pitch design within our five lot Pharazyn Street development,” says Darcy. “This is a five-bedroom 330 sq. metre pavilion style home with Scandinavian design elements including a mixed Italian brick and vertical shiplap cladding and striking brick chimney.” Pitched ceilings, timber flooring, abundant natural light, and modern amenities like ducted air conditioning make this home a prime example of The Housing Lab’s ability to balance style with functionality. The Housing Lab have designed, developed and built bespoke new homes across the Manawatu since they began in 2020, including a coastal themed family home in Kingsdale Park and a timeless lifestyle property on Stoney Creek Road, Palmerston North. An elegant blend of traditional and modern house design is currently for sale within Parkside Estate on the outskirts of Fielding. Contemporary Classic is a 185 sq. metre, four-bedroom, two-bathroom home that exudes timeless elegance and a homely ambience.
