Balustrade panel artworks, also fabricated by Pace Engineering, showcase various stages of the avalanche cycle. “It was a really good collaboration between the artist and our fabricators who built it. This is of huge cultural significance for the local iwi.” Pace Engineering precisely coordinated the fabrication process to ensure bridge components were made in the right order, ready to A statue of Rakahore – the Maori personification of rock - holds a mauri stone that visitors can touch at the start of a unique new suspension bridge across the Manganui Gorge on Taranaki Maunga. Providing spectacular views and safe passage across the gorge, the striking 100-metre long footbridge is part of the wider Taranaki Crossing project being developed in partnership between Nga Iwi o Taranaki, the Department of Conservation and Kanoa – the Regional Economic Development and Investment Unit. Formally opened in May, the Manganui Gorge Suspension Bridge is fast becoming a destination in its own right for tourists and locals alike. Designed by DC Structures Studio (Dan Crocker), the $1.2m bridge has been made to last at least 100 years and is a perfect fit with the surrounding alpine environment. The new bridge connects the “Around the Mountain” scenic walk, bypassing the existing rocky route through the base of the gorge. Abseil Access, which built the bridge, recently won a category award for their work on the project at the 2024 Civil Contractors New Zealand Hirepool Construction Excellence Awards. Pace Engineering’s specialist fabrication team in New Plymouth also played an essential role in this breathtaking bridge project, fabricating all the steel components including its massive steel masts and the bridge balustrade. “We worked closely with Abseil Access, DOC and iwi representatives,” says Pace Engineering General Manager Scott Richardson. “This project showcases the power of having effective working relationships to achieve a common goal and was a great experience for all involved.” Proudly providing IT Support Services to Pace Engineering for over 18 years Our business is looking after yours Microsoft 365 Cloud Solutions Computer Sales, Services & Upgrades Networking & Wireless Solutions VOIP Phone Systems Security & Forensics www.computersense.co.nz (06) 753-8082 info@computersense.co.nz 027 320 6932 kris@katerecoatings.co.nz New Plymouth 93a Katere Road Intumescent Coatings Thermal Arc Spray Mobile Site Work Abrasive Blasting Industrial Coatings WE OFFER: Pace Engineering ENGINEERING be installed on schedule. Good communication ensured all the multiple work groups came together to achieve this amazing end result. “As a company, we’re really proud to have been involved in the fabrication of this landmark bridge, which is such a significant structure for Taranaki as a whole.” Family-owned since 1992, Pace Engineering provides a wide range of value-added engineering solutions in Taranaki and beyond. The New Plymouth District Council is one of their clients, with a focus on Three Waters infrastructure. A recent project for the council involved replacing a faulty Gibault connector in the Te Henui wastewater system. In order to replace the defective part, a bypass solution first had to be installed with excavation works required. “Citycare did a temporary leak fix while we fabricated the components to allow this faulty joint to be bypassed and replaced.” Pace Engineering’s diverse client base extends across multiple industries, including the petrochemical sector. As a specialist in truck and trailer repairs, Pace Engineering also helps keep the district’s heavy vehicle fleet in top working condition. Pace Engineering are proud to have been recently appointed as sole Australasian representatives for Cometal Engineering (Italy), global leaders in aluminium extrusion technology.
