We ran the company but had to delegate to Pat Organ, our project manager, he’s been in the industry a long time so his job was to get the packhouse up and running and he did a great job.” The rebuild became a testament to the company’s deep roots in the Hawke’s Bay community, with local contractors rallying behind the effort. The reconstructed facility showcases cutting-edge technology, including artificial intelligence-driven grading systems, robotic fruit packers, and autonomous forklifts. The innovative approach to rebuilding caught the judges’ attention at the Export Awards, where Taylor Corp competed against other regional heavyweights. The company’s commitment to automation and artificial intelligence has set new industry standards, with the packhouse capable of processing 3,000 apples every minute during peak season. The success story is testament to the wider orchard community. The apple industry demonstrated solidarity, supporting Taylor Corp with packing and navigating the clean up throughout the region. This people-first approach reflects the Taylor family’s long-term perspective on business. “Being a family owned business, we think long term in decades, not years,” says Cameron. “The family’s innovative streak runs deep. My Grandfather was the first to have hydraulics on a tractor in New Zealand. Continuous innovation and striving are the family way. We’re always trying to improve in terms of the business and technology.” Looking ahead, Taylor Corp isn’t resting on its laurels. “We’re innovating the orchards, designing our planting system to gear up for automation in the orchards,” says Cameron. “This forward-thinking approach mirrors the family motto, attributed to my dad Kelvin Taylor: Standing still is going backwards.” He says the Export Awards recognition serves as more than just industry acknowledgment. “It’s something for our staff and our family to be proud of. It’s keeping the legacy going.” Proton Electric is proud to be one of Hawkes Bay's leading industrial electrical service providers.
