70 | DOORS Parkwood Products One of the challenges Parkwood faced in expanding its production was the need to keep the GRP doors separate from their aluminium door manufacturing process. The expansion also enhances the company’s logistical efficiency, reducing the cost and complexity of importing materials. T T Anne Boswell Parkwood Products Ltd, a family-owned company spanning three generations, has recently expanded its operations with a new factory dedicated to producing GRP (glass reinforced plastic) composite doors. For over 30 years, Parkwood has built a reputation for crafting high-quality doors known for their aesthetic appeal, ease of installation and durability, as well as industry-leading warranties. The expansion is a significant milestone in Parkwood’s commitment to staying ahead in the competitive door manufacturing industry. The new factory, constructed adjacent to their existing facility, marks a major step for Parkwood, allowing them to shift from importing GRP composite doors to manufacturing them on-site. This not only provides the company with greater control over production quality but also enhances its ability to meet the growing demand for this product line. GRP composite doors have become a key offering in Parkwood’s portfolio due to their durability, weather resistance and aesthetic versatility. Importantly, the new facility ensures that these doors can be produced under strict quality standards while reducing reliance on overseas imports. One of the challenges Parkwood faced in expanding its production was the need to keep the GRP doors separate from their aluminium door manufacturing process. To address this, a drive-through area was included between the two buildings, ensuring that the two materials remain isolated, which is essential for maintaining the integrity of the manufacturing process. This design solution allows Parkwood to efficiently run both operations side by side without any cross-contamination. The construction of this new facility was a collaboration between Wells and Wadsworth (W&W) Construction, a local contractor led by Director Glenn Wadsworth, and XL Structural Steel, a specialist in structural engineering and fabrication. XL Structural Steel played a crucial role in the project, contracted by W&W to provide the structural design, fabricate the building framework and ensure the expansion met Parkwood’s needs. XL’s expertise in architectural and engineering design enabled the project to stay on time and within budget. Parkwood’s decision to invest in this new factory comes as part of a broader strategy to expand their product line and increase production capacity. By manufacturing GRP composite doors on home soil, the company not only reduces lead times but also strengthens its sustainability efforts. Producing locally minimises the environmental impact associated with shipping and logistics, aligning with Parkwood’s commitment to sustainability and responsible manufacturing. The company recycles its waste wood and utilises aluminium, known for its sustainability, across many of its products. Further benefits to Parkwood’s business as a result of this development includes increased production capacity, allowing them to meet growing market demand, and the ability to control manufacturing processes locally to ensure higher product quality. The expansion also enhances the company’s logistical efficiency, reducing the cost and complexity of importing materials. The new factory will position Parkwood for long-term growth and continued leadership in the door manufacturing sector, ensuring they can serve their customers more effectively and sustainably. As Parkwood continues to innovate and expand, the company remains deeply rooted in its values of craftsmanship, quality and sustainability.
