T T Hugh de Lacy Making the experience of hiring equipment easy has been the driver of Hawera and New Plymouth-based Presco Hire for the past 30 years. The company was founded in 1973 as an electrical business in Hawera, and it got into the hire business by responding to local demand for scissor-lifts. Presco brought the first scissor-lift into Taranaki before expanding into cherry-pickers and, in 1999, cemented its new business focus by buying out a local hire company and changing its name to Hawera Hire. Six years later it launched the New Plymouth branch. Employing a staff of 21, Presco Hire serves a range of industries from construction, facility maintenance, civil, signage and shop fit-outs, with more than 8000 items for hire. “With our branches based in Taranaki, we are well-positioned to service the local region with our extensive fleet,” Sales Director Royce Prestidge says. “We also utilise our nationwide network of hire suppliers to facilitate sourcing and delivery of equipment throughout New Zealand.” The company invests around $1 million a year in new fleet equipment with choices largely determined by customer demand, and the preferred brands being Yanmar, Kubota, JLG, Snorkel, Atlas-Copco and JCB. “We encourage customers to follow us on Facebook or LinkedIn to get updated on when new equipment is added. “In addition, our website (www.prescohire. co.nz) showcases the already wide range of equipment we offer, but we always suggest our customers get in touch if they don’t see what they need as we are able to track down almost anything,” Royce says. “Our customers only have to call one supplier to source all their equipment needs, from access, earthmoving, site facilities and toilets, to generators and compressors, lift and shift machinery and a wide range of smaller tools and equipment.” “We have in-house mechanics at both of our branches, and we’re the only hire company in Taranaki with branches in both Hawera, on the corner of Scott Street, and New Plymouth, on Hurlstone Drive. “This provides our local customers with easy access to equipment regardless of where they are working in the region.” Presco Hire has a sister company, Presco Environmental with 30 staff, and while they share many of their customers, the two companies are run separately. It’s very much a Prestidge family business with Royce managing customer relationships, Oliver directing operations and brother Lauren serving as Fleet Manager. Two other Prestidge siblings, Harley and Kirsty, are also directly involved in the business, with Kirsty managing customer services for Presco Hire, and Harley overseeing Presco Environmental. While Presco Hire is focused on continMaking the experience of hiring easy uing to build on the success of its Taranaki business, it also has an established nationwide network of hire suppliers facilitating sourcing and delivery. “For customers working in new areas who aren’t familiar with the local suppliers this can be particularly helpful: they provide us with a list of what they need and we sort it all for them – they only have to call one supplier to source all their equipment needs,” Royce says. “Our customers only have to call one supplier to source all their equipment needs, from access, earthmoving, site facilities and toilets, to generators and compressors, lift and shift machinery and a wide range of smaller tools and equipment.” 0800 44 10 44 prescohire.co.nz YOUR ONE SUPPLIER FOR EQUIPMENT HIRE, ACROSS TARANAKI. 27 Scott Street, Hawera 83 Hurlstone Drive, New Plymouth Wemanage your project from start to inish! • Project Management Services • Residential • Commercial • Metal Long-Run Roo ing and Wall Cladding • Building • CustomMade Metal Flashings Talk The Talk, Roof The Roof Proudly supporting Presco Hire 06 755 0006 hello@dkroo ing.co.nz DK Roo ing Limited lee@LHmanagement.co.nz
