Today, their company, Hawera Kitchens, stands as a testament to quality craftsmanship, family values and strong community connections, having experienced significant growth over the past 15 years. Operating from a modern 800sqm workshop at 50 Union Street in Hawera, the business has carved out a unique position in the Taranaki region. We’re the only business in town with full CNC capability and make everything ourselves from scratch,” says Lance. The brothers’ journey began in their youth, when both discovered a natural ability for working with wood. This early passion led them to leave school and enter apprenticeships with a renowned cabinet maker. Their combined expertise now sees them lead a team of five workshop craftsmen, all working to Master Joiner Association standards. Lance brings 30 years of experience to the company and Klint 36 years in the trade, making them a fountain of knowledge for both their team and clients. Klint says this enables them to guide people in the right direction and come up with innovative solutions to deliver exactly what their clients want. The company tackles everything from new kitchens in high-end architectural homes to bench top replacements and small kitchen repairs for both residential and commercial customers from New Plymouth to Whanganui. The company only uses world-class suppliers, including Häfele, whose studio partnership gives Hawera Kitchens access to premium hardware and fitting systems. It also works with Hettich and Blum for cabinet systems and Melteca, Formica and Caesarstone for surfaces and bench tops. The innovative design of Cabro sinks makes them another great product, offered along with Parmco appliances and many other appliance options. Lance says the business model centres on a personal approach that sets Hawera Kitchens apart from larger competitors. Klint runs the workshop floor, overseeing production and quality control, and Lance handles the designing and quoting. This commitment to personal service earned recognition when the company received awards for Business Presentation and Service at the BIZLINK Business Awards. “The customers deal with Lance and I direct,” says Klint. “We deliver quality workmanship with a personal service and customers deal with the owners from start to finish.” Five years ago, the brothers made a significant investment by purchasing a new factory, doubling their workshop space. It is equipped with both modern CNC machinery and traditional woodworking tools.
