From Kihikihi, the wastewater pipes connect into the existing network to Te Awamutu, and onto a new pump station at Albert Park. The fourth stage of the project is 3 ½ km of rising main from Albert Park all the way through the middle of Te Awamutu, hooking up to the existing wastewater network at Daphne Street, on the edge of the town. Cap- ping off the upgrades to the Te Awamutu net - work is a separate contract, but this upgrade will be interlinked to another pump station on Christie Avenue. The existing pump station at Albert Park was near the end of its life and the Waikeria project provided an opportunity to build a new plant to modern engineering standards. “Since December we have successfully commissioned the Albert Park Wastewater pump station and downstream rising main to Paterangi Road. While work still remains to decommission and demolish some of the existing infrastructure in Te Awamutu the commissioning of Albert Park was a fantastic milestone which we are all proud of.” All work on the Waikaeria to Kihikihi rising main has now been completed while work continues on the Waikeria Wastewater Pump Station, the last link in the chain, with wet and dry commissioning scheduled to be under- taken in February before the entire project is completed in March. Of strategic importance is the fact that the new pump station at Albert Park has future-proofed capacity needed in the Waipa catchment out to 2050. Asked whether the project had presented with outstanding challenges from an engi- neering perspective Carl said that it had not presented with any. He’s also pleased with how the project has tracked financially, coming in well under the normal contingency allowed for builds of this nature. “When we take into account the costs of de- lay through COVID it’s a resoundingly positive project.” While Waipa District Council are legally and technically the Principal of the contract, the work is very much a partnership arrangement with Corrections. “It’s been a very successful project from initial tendering, through planning and execu- tion, and will have a significant positive impact on environmental outcomes for our district.” “It’s been a very successful project from initial tendering, through planning and execution, and will have a significant positive impact on environmental outcomes for our district.” Wayne Brown P: 027 319 7497 E: valleycoatings@yahoo.com • Specialist Finishes • Qualified Tradesman • Commercial • Residential • Cowsheds • Painting • Wall Papering Water Proofing • • External Plastering E2 (Licensed Building Practitioner)
