This has given the company the ability to assist with a variety of different underground boring and drilling jobs for commercial, civil, industrial and residential clients. The result has been that the company can undertake diverse projects including drilling, thrusting and boring under roadways, vibrat- ing mole ploughing and cable laying, pipe and power laying and underground services such as storm water, water mains and fibre. “We focus on providing a variety of services across various trade sectors. “Whether our customers are in need of un- derground drilling, foundations or site clearing through to cable laying, our expert drilling and boring contractors can help and are dedicated to offering reliable workmanship at a cost ef- fective price point,” explains company director Reed Powell. The company was originally started in the late 90’s and purchased by Reed and Steve Clark in 2017. Reed came from a forestry background and Steve had worked for the telecommunications industry for over 42 years including owning his own business erecting telephone poles. Since purchasing Contrax Technical Services the pair have focused on upgrading and updating equipment including purchasing a dedicated crane truck to undertake telephone pole erection projects. They have also invest- ed in specialised plant including trenchless technology. Karen Phelps Reed says that the specialist team at Con- trax Technical Services is expert in a range of contracting services for all types of environ- ments. In order to offer a complete service Contrax Technical Services also has staff that is STMS accredited to offer traffic management servic- es. Others are qualified to work at heights and in confined spaces. Contrax takes on jobs both small and large. Recent projects completed include under- ground directional drilling for a residential client that wanted a power cable inserted without disturbing their lawn and directional drilling for service station that needed fibre cable drilled underneath a concrete forecourt then pulled through to a new office building. Contrax Technical Services also recently drilled a pipe under a road to a council drain for a farmer so he could drain a paddock. The company is based at Clive where it has a yard and offices. A larger contract saw Contrax Technical Services lay eight kilometres of telecommuni- cation cable for Chorus in Hastings. Contrax can undertake a wide variety of different underground boring and drilling jobs for commercial, civil, industrial and residential clients.
