| 55 DEVELOPMENT Iconic Construction Striving for excellence brings impressive results O n a growth path and a strong vision for its future, Award winning Hamil- ton builder Iconic Construction is in the final days of its latest project—27 double storey terraced townhouses in north-eastern Hamilton. Positioned next to the new Wayward Pigeon restaurant on Gordonton Road, the new development provides much needed quality, high density, easy living housing with 27 town- houses spread over five buildings. Built on a 3518sqm bare land site, ground- work commenced early September, with the soil quality requiring a well compacted 900mm gravel raft built beneath a concrete rib raft flooring system. Construction of the townhouses was divided into three stages, enabling occupancy within completed blocks while construction continued on the remaining blocks. Stage one commenced in September 2019 followed by stage two in February 2020 and the final stage in May. Stage One townhous- es were handed over to their owners mid May with stage two recently completed and occupied and the final stage set for occupancy early December. Iconic Construction’s General Manager John- ny Gordon says the project has progressed very well despite the four weeks downtime due level-four lockdown, and the supply chain being impacted. “We were very fortunate being able to return to site during level-3 and progress the project. On that first day we had about fifty contractors on site, with everyone really fo- cused on what they had to do to get the build to go ahead.” Developed by Atlas Property and designed by the Hamilton practice DDL Architecture, the terraced townhouses feature red brick as the Richard Loader sole exterior cladding, including gable ends— giving them a distinctly European look. Each townhouse consists of upstairs and downstairs living, with a range of configura- tions from 1 – 3 bedrooms, 1 – 2 bathrooms, some with internal garaging while others have an external carpark. Each townhouse has its own slice of out- door space with some lawn and a clothesline. With just some fencing and landscaping left to complete, Johnny says the nature of the project and the level of repetition within the townhouses provided an opportunity for Icon- ic’s apprentices to fine tune their skills and craftsmanship under the guidance of qualified builders. Founded in 2009 by Nick Lane, Iconic Con- struction has steadily evolved from a one man operation focused on high-end bar fit outs within the Hamilton area, to labour only con- tracts to undertaking projects under Iconic’s own name and brand. Based in Hamilton Airport at the Heliport— near Nick’s other passion—his helicopter busi- ness—Iconic Construction has made its mark operating throughout the Waikato region doing renovations, new builds, lite commercial and design and build projects.
