Unit2go was established by Mark Ross in 2008 to fulfil a need in the market for the supply of small transportable houses. “We were renting them out to start with, then we got into financing them and selling them,” Mark says. “We’re 100% New Zealand owned and operated, and we only use locally sourced and locally manufactured materials.” Unit2go has a range of pre-designed plans for units from 10sqm up to 124sqm, from small sleepouts to four-bedroom homes suitable for families, a Designer Series of ar- chitectural transportable homes, and one-off designs to suit individual requirements. “A Unit2go tiny house can be as large as you need,” Mark says. “We can always join two units together for a pavilion style home.” Unit2go also provides specialist commercial units including bunkrooms, ablution blocks, mobile bars and cafes, portable stables, and offices. The possibilities are virtually endless. Unit2go buildings are constructed with timber frames, aluminium joinery, Colorsteel roofs, and insulation. Every building comes with a Code of Compliance certificate from the council. Both interior and exterior lighting are supplied, as is carpet or vinyl flooring. Units are professionally painted inside and out, and optional extras include television points, ovens, and built-in bunk beds. Units can be hardwired in or connected to the existing electricity supply with a caravan electrical lead supplied by Unit2go. This year, Unit2go has been busy building transitional housing for the Ministry of Busi- ness, Innovation, and Employment, with 20 units so far complete and set up at Takanini Caravan Park, and more to come. Mark says the Government has chosen Unit2go for the same reasons its customers do – speed, cost, and quality. “Building happens a lot quicker in our pur- pose built factory, and we have no hold ups with the weather. “We build our units inside out, the interior linings go on before the roof. We can paint the inside and finish that off before the build is even complete.” The team of specialists at Unit2go each have an area to focus on. It’s not one builder doing everything, it’s a team of specialists all doing what they’re good at doing. And everyone needed for the build is in-house and on-site at Unit2go. Building deliveries are undertaken through- out the North Island by Unit2go’s specialist transport team and truck and trailer system. No site preparation is required on reasona- bly flat sites, and Unit2go uses wheels, cranes, and diggers to manoeuvre buildings into those tight areas the truck cannot reach. Unit2go still has units available for rent, and this can often be a cost effective way for a business to temporarily create more space when it’s needed. The Unit2go team can assist with configur- ing a unit to suit individual business’s needs, like different layouts and extra windows and doors. “A Unit2go tiny house can be as large as you need.
