And our kitchens are also typically higher quality,” he says. James, a builder by trade, started building kitchens over 30 years ago. He was building a house for his father and decided to make the kitchen himself. James operated a building company along- side the kitchen joinery company for a num- ber of years before dedicating himself solely to his true passion of joinery in 2008. Since then JS Kitchens has grown rapidly with clients ranging from builders to homeowners. As a locally owned and independent cabi- netmaker and joinery company, JS Kitchens can offer clients distinct advantages, he says. “We offer a very personal service. At JS Kitchens, we believe that our clients’ kitchens are theirs from concept to creation, so we take the time to listen,” says James. “We also see each kitchen as a showpiece for our company and the clients’ home, so we ensure that it meets the highest industry standards. “We encourage our clients to be involved, ask questions and follow our design and creation process from start to finish as we build better quality and better-priced kitchens for them.” Company designer Jenna Thomas says aes- thetics is key along with usability. “This means everything is in the right place and feels good for the customer to use. “We take into account things such as the height of the bench, tasks they need to per- form in the kitchen etc. Everything is designed specifically for the customer and their home.” JS Kitchens offers a showroom with two full size kitchens and colour samples etc so peo- ple can get a good sense of options. A home visit in the case of a renovation or plans if a new build provide the company with the information needed to make an initial design, which is drafted in 3D. “We make changes until we get it right. People can be involved as little or as much as they like,” says James. The kitchen is manufactured by the small, dedicated JS Kitchens team with high quality materials. For example 18mm MUF moisture resistant board with zero formaldehyde emissions is standard. The company is also one of the few Hettich Endorsed Showrooms in New Zealand. “Hettich Endorsed Showrooms are a selec- tion of handpicked and exceptional show- rooms that showcase Hettich products. These showrooms are specifically chosen for their range, the quality of the product and displays on offer and their truly outstanding customer service,” explains James. JS Kitchens can simply supply the joinery or it can also organise all the subtrades such as electrician, plumber, builder etc. The company also manufactures laundry units, bathroom vanities, wardrobe systems and bedroom furniture. All products come with ten-year warranties and Hettich products come with lifetime warranties as long as the same person owns the joinery. Keeping up with the latest trends is an im- portant part of the business to offer custom - ers the best options available. Some of the latest releases include the Het- tich AvanTech YOU, a slim line, sleek alumin- ium drawer, the Dekton porcelain and glass benchtops and easy to clean, hardwearing Ultra Glaze acrylic board. Word of mouth has always been JS Kitchens’ main form of advertising. The company has been extremely busy since Covid-19 as Kiwis increasingly invest in their homes during the pandemic. The company works over a large area but mainly Manawatu and the Lower North Island.
