Steve says that the supply chain issues caused by Covid-19 have meant that accuracy and forward planning and ordering materials is even more important than normal. “For example normally we might need to order GIB three days in advance. Now we’ve been told it will be two months. “This has meant we’ve had to measure off plans before even pouring the concrete slab to make sure we have it in time. It’s not ideal but we have to find solutions in this environment,” says Steve. At present Southcoast is working on a number of education projects including relocating pre-existing prefab buildings at Oakura School and building three new classrooms. This project started in September 2021 and will be completed by July 2022. It is also working on a new build project at Puketapu School involving three classrooms and an administration block, converting a hall to a wharenui at Coastal Taranaki School in Okato and upgrading classrooms at Manukorihi Intermediate School. Steve says working with top local architects such as Ardern Peters Architects, Designgroup Stapleton Elliott and Stephenson & Turner ensures a great result for the client.
