Seaside Homes, which owns the Lockwood Homes Tauranga franchise, aims to create innovative architecturally designed homes using the famed system. Company owner Søren Antonsen says that the company’s award winning entry in the 2021 Registered Master Builder House of the Year competition is a case in point and really transforms people’s preconceptions of what a Lockwood Home build looks like. The home won a gold award in the Bay of Plenty and Central Plateau region in the Carters new home $1 million - $1.5 million category. Perhaps the most stunning feature is the blonded local renewable pine that has been used throughout the four-bedroom home. The interlocking boards on ceiling and walls give a Scandinavian feel to the design creating a light, open, airy home. Søren says the home is durable, ventilated, warm and dry. The 283sqm home is also full of details that prove the skill of the Seaside Homes team. “There is huge craftsmanship and detail at every level. This home really showcases the quality and lengths we will go to for our client to get everything right,” he says. The foundation was the biggest challenge for the team, which is blocks and stepped up a sloped site. It contains a basement with sauna and wine cellar. Inside concrete floors are fully tiled throughout the home in the same ceramic tiles. Barn style sliding doors were handcrafted by the Seaside Homes team from an image provided by the client. It’s actually the third Lockwood the client has built and a previous Lockwood was removed from the site by the team to make way for the new build and reinstated on another site. Seaside Homes is owned by Søren and wife Nikki. A Master Carpenter, Søren managed the Lockwood Homes Tauranga franchise for seven years before purchasing it three years ago. Nikki, an interior and textile designer by trade, assists clients with these aspects of their projects as well as taking care of the administrative side of the business. Since taking over ownership of the franchise the biggest change has been that they now employ their carpenters on staff rather than as contractors. Søren says that growing up in Denmark and working on building sites over there it was a family atmosphere where everyone was looked after well and he wanted to replicate this in his business. It’s no surprise their team members tend to stay with the company long term and build on their talents, which is of huge benefit to their clients resulting in award winning builds. Although Lockwood Homes offer concept plans, the majority of work Seaside Homes completes is architectural design and build projects. Clients arrive with their own ideas, sometimes even sketched on the back of a napkin, and Søren and his team make it work to deliver their dream home. For the last two years Lockwood Homes Tauranga has won the Customer Satisfaction award for the Lockwood Group and last year won the national Contractor of the Year title. At present Seaside Homes is building a variety of projects around the region including it’s largest home ever – a 365sqm house in the Kaimai Range. “People are individuals and should have individual homes,” says Søren, “and that’s what we deliver.” Scandinavian feel to award winning design P: 07 548 0606 E: info@pacificcoastkitchens.co.nz 471 Omokoroa Rd, Omokoroa, Tauranga www . p a c i fi c c o a s t k i t c h e n s . c o . n z We specialise in creating high quality kitchens, individual to you, throughout the Bay of Plenty.
