Five Rivers Medical has been founded and funded by Carterton farming couple Shane and Lynnette McManaway. The McManaways are passionate Wairarapa locals and farmers with Goldcreek, a 180ha deer and cattle farm west of Carterton, a 583ha sheep, beef, and dairy operation west of Martinborough, and a dairy farm in Kaikoura. Shane has been in the agriculture industry all his working life and retired from a large multinational agricultural business in June 2021. He says the Wairarapa is a growing and prosperous region with many families now moving in from the cities. “This has put increasing pressure on many of the existing health facilities,” he says. Shane and Lynnette were keen to put something back into the community that would benefit everyone, from those living rurally to those in the urban centres. With the growing and ageing population in the Wairarapa, as well as an increased level of mental health issues affecting many in the community, they saw the need for an integrated medical facility. Greytown had a small existing medical facility but it was limited given the increasing population, and also required new premises. Tumu is pleased to have worked with the McManaways on the new FiveRiversMedical Centre. Congratulations on a wonderful facility for the Greytown community.
