Company managing director Richard Emmett was also honoured with the Judith Timpany Award for his outstanding contributions to both business and the wider community. “It’s hard to get recognition in our game,” says Emmetts Civil Construction contracts manager Chris Berry. “We put a lot of hard work, sweat and tears into our clients’ projects, but it generally happens behind the scenes. Richard is heavily involved in the community, and with more than 40 years of industry experience, he always immerses himself within the Emmetts team and enjoys being fully involved in projects, making sure his experience doesn’t go under-utilised. We’re proud to call him our leader, mentor, and friend, and we appreciate him more than he knows.” Business Whanganui - Chamber of Commerce described Richard as a pillar of the community, someone who exemplifies the power of quiet dedication and selfless contribution, whose work has strengthened not only his business, but also the whole community and through his tireless efforts, has made the Whanganui community stronger, kinder, and more connected. Richard is well-known for going the extra mile, and this conviction is imparted to the entire Emmetts team. Emmetts is at the leading edge of civil construction and brings an abundance of resources and experience along with a collaborative approach to all its construction projects, allowing for value-added efficiencies and projects undertaken within required timeframes and budgets. Emmetts’ strength lies in its ability to undertake major structural works, repairs, and improvements under difficult conditions in a timely manner. Emmetts aims to drive industry-leading innovation and deliver exceptional structural solutions that redefine the build environment. Recently, Emmetts worked with Novare Design to come up with an innovative design-andbuild solution for the new Creek Road Bridge using U-shaped panels for a significant reduction on the cost of any other bridge of this span built for HNHO-72 loading. “We really try to differentiate ourselves by doing things differently from other people,” Chris says. “Our range of bridges are designed for individual situations and we always consider a number of different solutions before settling on the best option for our client, be it one of our proprietary bridging products or a custom design and build. If you need to cross the gap, we are the team to call.” Emmetts has been busy throughout the recession, and rather than laying off staff, has actually increased its team during this time, within its bridging division in particular. Recovery work from Cyclone Gabrielle in Hawke’s Bay has been ongoing and, with NZTA among some of Emmetts’ very large repeat customers, the company’s capabilities are a big deal in a small town like Whanganui. Thanks go to Emmetts’ valued clients, its dedicated team and their loving families for their unwavering support, without which these recent achievements at the Whanganui Regional Business Awards would not be possible.
