18 | REGIONAL DEVELOPMENT Whanganui Business Awards - Thompson Plumbing & Gas T T Bernadette Cooney Awards double reflects team effort Owner Jed Thompson leads a team of 14 tradespeople across the residential, commercial and rural sectors. “Thompson Plumbing wouldn’t be what it is without the team. From those that have been with us since the beginning, to our newer members, everyone has contributed, so it’s rewarding to have their efforts recognised.” Whanganui based, Thompson Plumbing & Gas Ltd, made a winning debut at the 2024 Whanganui Business Awards, taking home Gold in the New and Emerging Business category and Bronze in Construction, Trades, and Infrastructure. The company’s first foray into such awards, made their double-whammy win even more special. “ We were thrilled,” says office manager Morgan Rastrick. “This was our first time entering the business awards, so to come away with not one but two wins was such a nice surprise. It’s a testament to the hard work and dedication of our team.” The team of registered and certified plumbing, gas fitting, and drainlaying professionals has been providing outstanding service since the company began in 2019. Owner Jed Thompson leads a team of 14 tradespeople across the residential, commercial and rural sectors, and entered the awards to recognise the effort the team has put in since its inception, says Morgan. “It feels good to be recognised by the local business community, but also feed that back to the staff to allow them to have a moment to shine,” she says. “Because realistically, as Jed said on awards night, Thompson Plumbing wouldn’t be what it is without the team. From those that have been with us since the beginning, to our newer members, everyone has contributed, so it’s rewarding to have their efforts recognised.” The family-owned-and-operated business prioritises its employees’ work-life balance. “Jed ensures the team can spend time with their families. It’s important to him that the company feels like a family-run business,” says Morgan. Thompson Plumbing & Gas Ltd works across Whanganui, Rangitikei, and South Taranaki, offering high-quality, certified workmanship along with the ability to coordinate other trade specialists to ensure seamless results for clients. “All our tradespeople are registered or certified, and Jed holds the highest qualifications as a certified plumber, gas fitter, and drainlayer,” says Morgan. “We’re also members of Master Plumbers, which gives our clients extra confidence in our expertise.” Recent acquisitions of Graham Bull Plumbing in 2021 and Waverley Plumbing & Gas in 2023 have bolstered the company’s capabilities. The company recently moved to a new office at 83 Pūtiki Drive, Whanganui, offering a professional space for consultations. “Previously, we were in a small office, but now we have more space, allowing us to better serve our customers and expand our operations,” says Morgan. Whether it’s a residential new build or renovation, Thompson Plumbing & Gas can provide and install hot water systems and heating solutions, bathroom and kitchen upgrades, waste disposal and much more.
