SCL - playing its part in Wairoa Hawke's Bay civil construction company SCL Civil Works has established a presence in Wairoa through a signi icant housing development project while bringing valuable local expertise back to the region. SCL Civil Works has completed the inal civil works for the Te Rauā housing development, a key project for Tātau Tātau o Te Wairoa Trust. The work encompasses completing common landscape areas, access roads, underground services, concrete work and footpaths for transportable homes. The company's expansion into Wairoa has been facilitated by the return of long-term sta member Mita Henare to his hometown. As a skilled supervisor, drain layer and machine operator, Mita now leads the company's projects in the area, providing an important local perspective and ensuring e icient delivery. "We are now looking at other opportunities in Wairoa and it's great to be able to have Mita heading our projects there as he can take charge of jobs from start to inish. It's also good to be able to support local suppliers and contractors who we always prioritise giving work to irst,” says Bailey Gair, general manager of SCL Civil Works. She says that working on a signi icant local project such as Te Rauā that will assist iwi is incredibly rewarding. “We are happy to be able to help deliver warm dry homes to locals and provide opportunities for people within Wairoa,” says Bailey. The establishment of a presence in Wairoa has already yielded additional opportunities, with the company securing a papakāinga project in the area. Despite being relatively new to the industry, established in 2021, SCL Civil Works has quickly established itself as a formidable player in the civil construction sector. Founded by Mike Job, Quentin Welch and Mike Knight, all experienced contractors with strong project management backgrounds, the company has focused on delivering high professional contracting services standards.
